motor swap ?'s
Alright here we go.... i drive a 96 ls teggy with 133,xxx miles. Im going to swap the motor and build a turbo setup. If heard two stories... buy another ls, build it and turbo it because the ls motor is a lot stronger a gsr motor. My other option is to buy a gsr motor and build it for a turbo. Im not sure what to do. I dont want crazy power, i definitly want reliability over horsepower. I was thinking maybe6-7 lbs of boost.
Also what should i replace in a motor before i turbo it... whats the best setup for internals... and what kind of valvetrain should i put in it.
any help is appreciated..... thanks

if you have the money for a GSR motor then go with that, it will make more power and for a longer duration with the right turbo
all potential power is going to be determined by the parts the motor is built with, the turbo, and tuning
you have to choose where you want to make power, in the mid range or high end of the power band
most big turbo's dont reach their full power potential due to the fact that a 4 cylinder doesnt flow enough air and have a high enough rpm range to fully use the power

well i woud definitely suggest the gsr motor over the ls. yeah ls on turbo runs hard but you cant rev out too much and more likely to blow. the gsr has a crank girdle which gives more security to the block and i would also suggest arp head studs and rod bolts and maybe even a block guard. but the gsr has a little more compression not too high which is pretty good for boost but mos deff the gsr

whats your reasoning?

well for one you cant rev out too much cuz the engine will starve of oil (no oil squiters) well i dont know why i said more likely to blow but it just would be a much better idea to go with the GSR.....correct me if im wrong about the oil starvation

wrong, the oil squirters are only used for cooling, not for oil distribution through out the block
you can rev and LS block high if it is built properly, the only oiling upgrade you need is a vtec oil pump

ls engine doesn't have as balanced of a crank and doesn't have the bottom end support of of the C1 engine, so once again you can't rev it up.
Injector size- I'm pretty sure the stock ecu doesn't map injectors bigger than 400cc, so any more than that and you can plan on a better fuel management.
