Brake safety issue.... Check your damn lines!
Ok, I've got a brake fluid "leak" and I will use that word very loosely since it's not a steady leak but mostly moisture forming at the metal connections and while it has started to lower my fluid level it has not "yet" affected my braking. Not that I can tell anyway.
Well here's the bike; an 05 SV650 with 9000+ miles, regularly scheduled and kept outside in the hot *** AZ desert weather.

Here you can see the brake fluid seeping at the underside of the lower crimp.

The top of the top crimp

And another shot from the back side with the sleeve pulled up.

Now I've already ordered a Goodridge stainless steel brakeline kit which should be here next week and was only 7 bucks more than the stock line assembly.
Just wanted to remind you guys.... Especially those of you that don't do your own maintenance, to give your bike a good once over at LEAST once a month from top to bottom. I'm glad I caught this before I caught the back of a semi.
SV owners feel free to chime in on their brake experiences.
Peace.

The bike had it's first birthday with me last monthand yes I put many miles on it, 40 miles every Monday through Friday and usually 60-100 miles on Saturdays Junkyard hopping. It's been nothing but realiable to me and I want to blame this on a singular manufacturing defect cause all other owners in my area have had no such probs.
You should ALWAYS do a walk around before getting on... every time you ride. I usually do a quick visual inspection of the brakes and related areas, the hardware fixing the wheels to the bike, the chain area and the steering/head tube. this takes about 30 seconds to accomplish. ever seen a pilot take off without doing a walk around?
Well as far as warranty goes, it expired the 30th of last month and I thought that Suzuki would be interested as it might be a defect issue of even something to just document for reporting even if not under warranty. But no, I called 3 Suki dealers and they all wanted 75 dollars just to look at it and tell me I need a new line.
So pay 75 dollars to have someone tell me something I already know or pay 89 to get a new ss line......it's a no brainer.
And MSchu you are absolutely right about doing a walk around everytime but I have been guilty of only doing a quick tire/chain/brake pad check. Well needless to say that's the end of that.

Good for you, I love to see responsible riding techniques, specially form young folks.... as opposed to "Hey, I just mounted my own tires, it's fun and easy, and I am not even going to get them balanced" posts... not to smart.
this is what I am doing daily:
thanks... you should look for leaks for any kind that may effect your bikes ability to run without problems, not small valve cover leaks but a brake line leak may indeed result in complete failure. I look at all bolts that attach the wheels to the bike, axle bolts and the locking bolts that keep the axles fixed to the bike, I look at the chain area to see if it is abnormally loose or tight, this can also result in a failure at speed or may just be an indication that something is wrong with the alignment and or locking bolts of the rear of your bike. I also do a steering/head tube bearing check by turning the handle bars full left and full right, when in the full position left or right lock the front brakes and rock the bike forward and backward in rapid succession, this will give you a general indication if the head tube bearings are loose/maladjusted. If you have been having trouble with your pegs or brake/shifting mechanism, keep that on your list to inspect every ride also. sufficient air in tires and debris in tread is also very important. This entire walk around take less than 20-30 seconds and your on your way! thanks for asking

2 weeks ago I noticed my clutch line on my RC51 sweating brake fluid just like yours, maybe a little more pronounced. Been lazy to take it to the dealer, it's only 9 months old and still under warranty.
