So someone on here ran me through some trouble shooting to find out what was wrong and we came to the conclusion that the fan switch was bad. Well i just replaced it and the fan still isnt working. It only works when i turn the a/c on. Any other opinions with what is wrong? TIA
That is normal, the fan isnt always going to be running when the engine is running. It will come on when the temp is too high also. Someone correct me if im wrong

well i mean i just drove 60miles (freeway = 80+mph) and the fan wasnt going when i got home....i would think the fan should of come on by then lol....and i didnt bleed the system proberly at first and over heated while i was driving...i pulled over before i got all the way to hot, and the fan wasnt going then either.
well what was wrong with my car is i just had LOW COOLANT....i replaced the thermostat...and the switch for the fans but it all ended up being because of low coolant...put more in and see what happens
There are 2 separate fans. The one that you speak of that runs only when the A/C is on is strictly for cooling the a/c compressor. That fan does not run any other time.
THe other fan, which should be the one on the left side, should automatically come on somewhere around 180 degrees, i believe. If it is not coming on at all, and you have already replaced the thermo switch with a new one, double-check your fuse panel. Check the one under the hood as well as under the dash. I'm not certain if there is a fuse directly related to that fan.
If all is well there, put 12v to the fan to make sure that it still works. Just that 2 wire leads from your battery for a moment. This will at least tell you if the fan is still good.

well he is right the first thing i did was put direct power to the fans...car does not need to me on or anything just give it power and dont worry about which one is positive if you have it backwards the fan will just spin the oppossite way...yes backwards but that doesnt mean anything but that it works and you need to look somewhere else

Well the fans work fine, i already hooked it up straight to the battery to make sure...if you are right about only one fan going for a/c and the other for above 180 degrees, then i think i have a wiring problem. Cause when i have the a/c on, both of the fans go...and if i remember correctly, both of the fan went on when i completed the circuit after i disconnected the fan switch. Oh, and there is a fuse under the hood for the cooling fan but i do not beleive there is a fuse under the dash related to them. And the fuse was fine, but i went ahead and replaced it today just in case.

Start the car and just let it sit for a while. Wait for it to come up to normal temp, then sit and wait some more until the temp gauge gets to between 12:00 and 1:00. The fans should only come on when it get to be about that hot on the gauge.

Well it rarely or never gets past 12:00. But as i stated earlier, today when it overheated it got to about 2:00 almost 3 before i shut it off and i check the fan and it wasnt running.
