electrical problem with a 90 civic..
Here's the problem; My friend has a 90 civic hatch, and he hit a pothole pretty hard with it. After that, his tach doesn't work, headlights/tails are out as well as the clock and turn signals. He replaced the problem fuse, #1... and everytime he turns the key to start the car, the fuse shorts out. He used almost a full box of fuses!
Anyone have any ideas as to what maybe causing this? I thought the wires behind the headunit might have something to do with it, but that works fine. TIA for any info

Well, I dont know for sure, but I would start by checkin the main relay (which I do doubt is the problem in this matter) This sounds like a grounding issue... Also, check the battery over carefully, check its charge and make sure its not leaking..., check the ground for the battery(follow it ALL THE WAY TO THE TRANNY), make sure its not damaged or anything, the ground from the valve cover to the radiator support thingy, your positive cable to the starter *if it broke loose, then it could be touching anything and shorting your car out) and also, youre dizzy COULD (like i said, i dont know for sure!) be jacked. Hopefully, that'll help get you pointed in the right direction. I'm home for the evening and checking HT periodically as I work on my car, so shoot me back and let me know what exactly with the above mentioned things you find!

what about behind the cluster? didn't you have to wire up the SI one?

Dizzy might be over charged and sending a hard signal to the cluster popping the fuse. That's a huge maybe tho. The dizzy would probably fail before anything else. I have the same issue with tail lights...they simply went out one day...

sounds like your tach feed or something else is shorted to ground. When something is shorted to ground the current or amperage is increased. This increase is great enough to melt the fuse. To some it up something in that circuit which is attached to that fuse is shorted to ground.
