Default vehicle speed sensor??????

my car is acting very odd and im getting the code for the vehicle speed sensor and what its doing is i drive my car and it runs fine no smoke sputtering ect.but when i turn it off then try to restart it,it doesnt start unless i let it sit for a while after trying,then it runs like nothing happened.i still havnt reset the ecu yet but i also have this from another post somewhere on here.and im getting 17 flashes so...any ideas are welcome

The VSS shouldnt have anything to do with car not restarting. To fix the VSS code you have to replace the guage cluster, or tear it apart to find the VSS and replace it. Ive had that code for a long time now, no preformance probs.

i agree, the code 17 (vss) has nothing to do w/ this starting problem.

the starting problem just start happening when the weather started getting warm? if thats true, then sounds like a bad Main Relay.

Either way, sounds like a bad main relay lol

well i live in germany it never gets warm here but its been a week and it has seamed to fix itself after i reset ecu.maybe my car just had a bad day...

mine was throwing off the same code, my speedometer or mile tacker doesnt work... but no performance prob. how do i reset my ecu?

there's a fuse box inthe engine bay, find the fuse labelled HAZARD and remove it for 10 seconds, replace it and the ecu is reset.

however, since you said the speedo doesnt even work that code will pop back on within a few miles.

alright well ill try that, since my speedo does not work, how can i fix this? may i need a whole new cable or guage cluster, my tack and all the lights work in the cluster, i know to check if the cable is pluged in the trany or something but i dont know where that is located... could i get a pic? im getting an 88 si on sunday, if it is my cable thats messed and that cars cable are fine can i just use that cable in my 91?
