Default Subframe Tearout

Comptech 22mm old style sway. Been on the car for probably 5-6 years. I was pulling into a parking lot at a 45 degree angle and I heard a huge cracking sound.

What am I do to now?

Have it rewelded. Doesn't look too bad.

I guess my main concern is how to go about fixing it?

Do I replace that subframe piece? Or do I have the cracks welded up?

I'm not flamin or anything, i'm just wondering.... i had one of the mounting nuts pull out of my subframe, and i'm looking at the best (most affordable) way to fix it.

It has to get welded no matter what you do.

shiet that really sucks. that means if you were to evne have a beaks kit it would've still tore out.
judging by the picture, comptech has its own re-enforcement on there.

Does anyone have some real experience with this? I know it needs to be tig welded, do I want to do a seam weld or add some plates? Anyone have examples of a repaired subframe?

its sorta important, have it welded by a pro, then get a new brace and replace the original brace's mounts

You mean get the ASR brace and replace the Comptech brackets?

thats what i meant... the only reason i would replace the comptech brackets is: the bar should be removed before welding to make sure its a good weld and that the bar didnt pull anything out of place ect. you get the point..

and then replace the brackets... by this i mean re-mount the same brackets in a different place and re-install the bar. This will make sure that first of all you have a good weld and secondly that you have a newly fit bar on there that wouldnt be constantly putting stress on the new weld.. i hope that makes sense.. its 2:43 though and all ican think about was how i passed up an LS tranny for 100 bucks, and how my car would be different if it wasnt broken into 8 months ago (CTR tranny + turbo kit) o well yeah that should take care of your car

I would think remounting the brackets is asking for more trouble possibly. They'd also have to be threaded I'm sure.

Anyone else have some suggestions?

damn that sucks! same exact thing happened to my brother's eg6 during an autocross! so i guess im the only guy who knows from my brothers experience. a lot of stress goes through the subframe in that area.. especially with a bigger sway bar....of course everybody knows this... not sure if welding it would do the trick.. my brother chose the smart way and had a friends body shop weld on brand new subframe boxes... it cost like a couple hundred bucks to do... but itll be lined up all good for sure.. not all tweaked out.. hope that helped

if it was me....i would weld a new subframe and throw a asr bar onto it...and you would be set! but thats also the most expensive fix too....

Hmm, I'm sure it was only a couple hundred bucks cause of the hookup.

How mcuh does everyone think it would cost to have someone do the whole subframe?

If you replace the subframe, just get an ITR one and forget about the ASR brace. Thats what I would do in your situation. There is a thread in either the AutoX forum or Suspension forum where a guy had his professionally welded and it kept tearing. Good luck.
