Default brake problem help (2001 f4i)

i recently picked up this bike and it has a brake problem.

the front brake requires you to pull the lever twice, always without fail.

the guy that sold it to me was used to it, he would always just double click it, it became second nature to him, its not for me

i am not a motorcycle mechanic at all, but just help me out with what it could be.

thanks

Not enough brake fluid. Dirty caliper pistons. Old pads. Just to start.

start by changing your brake fluid

I would probably start with adding fluid and bleeding the system...

In a way, it kind of makes sense that there is not enough brake fluid so you have to pull twice.

I'm surprised nobody has said this yet... but it's probably not a good idea to keep riding the bike.

You haven't definitively identified the problem yet so you can't be sure that it won't get worse (and maybe not work at all sooner or later).
