Default Just went to karting school...shifter karts are FAST

I went to the KRC Shifter Karting school today, and man...those things are the fastest things I have ever been in. 0-60 in around 4 seconds and a top speed of something like 125 mph! If you haven't tried it already, I'd recommend it. Although I do have a headache from the Gs those things produce (your head literally snaps back when you get on the gas).

Also, there were 5 360 Modena Challenge cars (I guess that's what they were. They were totally stripped out with roll cages and 1 seat, full-on race prepped. There was also a similarly prepared Porsche 911 GT3, as well as a guy with a 550 Maranello, and another guy with a vintage Ferrari (couldn't tell what it was...just got a glimpse of it and heard it being revved). That's about uh...1.3-1.4 million in cars in one garage!

Neck was a little sore from the acceleration but it's better now. I had a rib protector because I heard the horror stories of separated/bruised ribs .

It was $375 for the school, $50 for insurance (a bit high) and it was at the Willow Springs kart track. I'd probably do it again, yeah.

my buddy has a 80cc shifter cart and that thing rips. There is a karting club he belongs to and you get keys to the track!! You can go just about anytime you want. The 80cc karts only have rear brakes, so they are a handful off of the straight.

GRM magazine did a performance test of a shifter cart vs a new z06 vette. The cart was the winner hands down!

Yep, I've taken a few classes with KRC. Karts are definitely the best way to get that Formula 1 feeling, with the ground rushing past as you are banging up and down through the gears and drifting through the turns!

What were your lap times (assuming you were at the Willow Springs Kart track)?

Are those things 2-pot 2-strokes? Rotax?

There were bikes on the actual kart track, so we had to go up to the balcony track, which is normally an oval but we set up cones and there was one chicane. There were no timing devices set up either, and we were only allowed to pass in one session, but not before or after that because in that session another guy tried to pass me in a turn that I had the rights to and he hit my kart and bent the rear axle (the instructor called me MS and him JPM ). I think I was hitting 75-80 down the straight. They pull so hard at that speed it's unbelievable!

Edit: Found a (bad) picture of the track.
