Default JR SC - Good/Bad???

I have a stock 2000 ITR... If I wanted to install a JR SC, would I have to do anything else to the car? I don’t want serious power; just a little more would be nice... I was thinking JR SC because I can get a very good deal on a new one... is this thing a bolt on and forget about it part? Or does it involve constant tuning? Will there be reliability issues? I want to know that when I turn the ignition, it will start.

Thanks in advance.

They numbers Jackson Racing quotes on their website require more than just bolting on the blower. Tuning and some extra parts are needed. From what i've read though, decent gains can be had. Talk to Rboosted717, he's the resident JRSC guru, making 265whp, maybe more now.

basically. only one thing... you have to figure in an extra maintenance. the belt. its usually good for 10,000 - 15,000 miles then you need to change it. I bolted my kit on and drove and drove and drove... no dyno tune, nothing. Its fine. No problems... until the belt goes out of course.

when i went beyond the stock set up, a few things went wrong, but its just cuz of those bad products (MSD = Crap) Just buy the kit, put it on, change belts regularly at 10,000-15,000 miles, and it should be fine. I had mine for 2 or 3 years now and no problems with the JRSC.

Judging by what you say you are lookin for... get it! Just keep in mind you'll go through belts.

As a cheap way to get speed, its not worth it. Putting in the wrench work with extra parts and lotsa tuning will eventually show some gains.

i dunno if you have a JRSC, but... your pretty wrong. i bolted the kit on and drove around without tuning. After I sufficiently broke it in, I raced a mustang GT... I was going side to side with it and I had an extra person in my car... I also beat an ITR with ease... and beat many others. With NO TUNING on a LS AUTOMATIC! If I didnt get some gains with no extra parts and no tuning, then how was I able to do that???

maybe you sold your soul to the devil. just a thought...sorry...

i've actually heard good things about the JRSC, though. just keep in mind that there should be some preventative maintenance done before driving the car too hard.

there was a JRSC'd R at a track event I was at...I passed him many many times in a stock R.

Supercharging an LS will get you a lot of gains...only because LS's are slow to begin with.

ok, first of all maybe you passed a JRSC R on the track cuz the guy wasa bad driver???

and your next comment makes no sense... so the Type R is so great that forced induction will not make it any faster or add anymore power? Where are all the turbo and supercharged ITR guys? Only reason the ITR will gain less than what I did is cuz it runs on lower boost because of its higher compression is more prone to detonation, BUT even so it's only running at 1 psi less than the LS or GSR kit. I love how some of the ITR guys reason...

I responded a week or two ago in a similar thread about jrsc'ing a typeR. It can be done successfully, but it does require a fair amount of tuning to run well.

Most importantly, you need to understand that the typeR doesn't respond nearly as well to the base jrsc kit as will an LS or gs-r. Some non-typeR jrsc owners are absolutely clueless to this fact, and they blindly hold fast to the belief that since JR advertises a "40% increase in power," then that must hold true for the typeR.

To put it bluntly, there is NO WAY a stock typeR will hit anywhere near the promised 225-230whp (40%) with the base jrsc kit. The base jrsc usually yields 160-175whp. Good tuning generally increases output to 180-190whp. An engine management system, or a couple of JR's add-on's (BTC & MAP mod) will put you around 200whp. Header/cat/exhaust will get you to 215-220whp.

These numbers are pretty consistent among jrsc'd R owners. Scooter, I think, had like 210whp after tuning the base kit (I don't remember if his car was stock otherwise), but he's pretty far off the normal curve. He and Mike Marsey are good resources if you have tuning questions.

As usual the Forced Induction bashing has began again, spearheaded by Ross and friends.

Lets get back to the topic though. Ravage, you will make HP, and if you don't believe me ask Mike Marsey who actually owns a JSRC unlike some others here.

Here's a link to his car: http://www.itrca.com/registry/regist...mber=47&car=40

Notice at the bottom it says:
"SAE power 264whp
SAE torque 170trq"
