6th Gen J35/J32 Hybrid Swap
Ok, so a buddy at work (also a car nut) suggested a very intriguing swap yesterday. He is saying that if I put in a J35A from an MDX with the J32 CL Type-S heads in my accord with some easy ecu tuning and I'm looking at about 350hp (roughly). But get this, he even went so far as to say that this swap is actually like 15lbs lighter than an H22 swap would be. I was like
Now I've come a long way to know that you can't just believe everything that just anyone tells you, but I know this guy knows his stuff (went to UTI). And although his suggestions are usually a bit "out there" as far as conventional tuning/modding goes, they are usually very sound suggestions.
I've tried searching about this swap on here, and the only thread I saw was for an integra (so that's no help). So my question for you guys is, do you think that would just be an absolutely rediculous task and borderline being worth it?
I realize that pretty much anything can be done to any car and it depends on what I consider "worth it" (since it is my car), but I'm just thinking that for, say $6k to get an h22 swap and turbo it to get the same amount of HP as this other swap that would be much more original.
So, it's like Hmmmm, H22 turbo or all motor v6 that's actually lighter than an h22 and is crazy original (or so I think)? What would you do?
Also, if I'm not making any sense, feel free to ask me to elaborate a little. And constructive criticism is welcome.

I'm sorry that I can't provide much info, but I will say that's it's been done several times, though I personally think it's still my favorite swap idea. PM RedneckDave. He's done the TL-S V6 6-speed swap, and I think he's been working on the 3.5 Bottom end.
Because you have an I4, you have the wrong car for a V6 swap.
You'll have to completely change everything in the bay. It'll be as if you were starting from scratch.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into that. But I just hate automatic and since the 6th gen ex-v6's only came in auto, it really wasn't even an option for me.
But all I have to say is that if people are puttin the K20's (not to mention chevy small blocks) into CRX's, just about anything can be done with the right amount of time and money regardless of the limitations.

The swap you speak of has been become more feasable/explored within the recent years.. There are a few options that you have.. As a matter of fact even if you have a 4cyl. all of the holes are already predrilled in to the chassis as if it's waitng for a transplant. (This is confirmed. Someone has already done the conversion from 4cyl. to v6 with the added bonous of a 6spd.) For the basic setup, what you will need are internals of the j35 (certain yrs due to a shorter crankshaft) and the heads and Intake manifold from the j32 cL type-S. However, for a more definitive answer on the swap options.. Visit http://www.v6performance.net/forums specifically 6th gen section. I currently have a 1st gen cL that will be recieving this transplant.. It is far from complete but I just recently aquired a j32 with 6spd. and axels,ECU and cluster. I also have a j35 bottom end sitting in the room waiting for it's new home. Again, you have a few options. Visit v6p.net and you will have your answers. Also, http://www.acura-cl.com/forums is a good source for variations of this swap. G'Luck.

Hold up....
IF your car is a 1998 or 1999 this swap is not feasable since these cars are not DIS. You can do a swap into a 1998 or 1999 but you will have to do a lot of work since cannot use a CL-S head (no distributor)
You can still do a 3.5L swap you just have to use the accord heads and CL-S cams and without boost that would get you somewhere around 260hp add boost and 300HP is easy.
I would not swap a V6 into an I4 car you would need to replace a lot of stuff besides the engine and bvy the time you spent all of that hard earned cash, could have sold your car and bought a V6 and modded that.......

It is possible to swap in the v6 into the I4 accords. But what everyone say is correct as well, you would have to change more things in order to make it work. I've seen it in person that it has been done. A J32A2 (cl-s motor) into a 4 cyl accord. The main thing that needs to be changed in order to get the V6 to fit is the whole sub frame. Get one from the V6 accords and most of your fitment issues are solved. But that's quite a hefty burden on the wallet as well.
To summarize:
1. This engine combo has been done and does not require a lot of custom work.
2. A 4cyl Accord of your year can be made to accept the V6 motors BUT this DOES require a little more custom work that makes it more expensive and troublesome than it is worth (in most people's view).
3. You can do all of this but for the money and time spent an H22A or turbo F23 would yield much better results at a lower cost.

I know it doesn't require a WHOLE lot of work but it'll still require MORE work nonetheless. I was only referring to putting the V6 motor into an I4. But if it's putting the 3.5 V6 into the V6 accord then it'd be a direct drop in.
I thought about the V6 swap in my 4th gen with a K-series transmission (as the J and K face the same way)...blah too much work.
What I WOULD recommend though for the most bang for your buck would be to get some lightweight high comp pistons and rods, get your crankshaft balanced and go for an H22 head swap...my parents are probably gonna make me dump my CB and get a 6th gen so that might be the route I take
You'll get mad torque, decent top end and not spend too much dough...

Wow, guys. This all great, thanks.
But if I'm really gonna go through with this swap, I'll be ready for all the headache that would be in store, as I have gotten used to that kind of ****.
My and my buddy from work's plan would be to just get the engine put together and working first, then worry about how we are going to swap it in. Basically, this is my everyday driver now, so I would wait until I get something else to do this swap.

This would really be for orignality/suprise/just bad assness. I'm not necessarily just looking to do the most cost-effective bang for your buck kinda deal (otherwise I would not have gotten an accord). Everyone does that... I want somethin cool.
Though an H22 head swap on the f23 doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I'll also look into that. But if I was gonna go that route, I would most likely go for a turbo app, not N/A.
How do you guys think a Nissan t3 (.60/.63) would be for that frankenstein? I'm thinkin it might even be on the small side for that motor, seeing as that I originally bought the t3 for a DOHC ZC.

Well if you want to be original you could definitely do it.
As for that turbo I think it depends on what you want. If you want a drag car a bigger turbo with more power may be in order. But I think small turbos are great for daily driveability and a flatter torque curve.

If you do a J32A2 with 6 speed swap then the only headache you'd have to worry about is changing the subframe and wiring. That's only if you are able to find the rare parts though, such as the 6 speed tranny from the 03 cl-s, 03 6-speed ECU, and 03 CL-S motor.
You can alternatively use the 01-02 CL-S motor if you like (01-02 CL-S motor all had automatics, which is still the same motor but some parts are different) but then you'll need to buy extra parts to make the swap with the 6 speed to work. Such as the crank gear (the auto 01-02 and manual 03 have different crank gears). You'll need to buy a a crank sensor (03 manual has one but 01-02 doesn't have). ......Actually I think i'll just list the parts there's just too much to explain.
These extra/replacement parts are only necessary if you're using the CL-S motor w/ an auto.
If you got the CL-S motor originally with a 6 speed then these parts would've already been on the motor.
1 SENSOR ASSY., CRANK 37500-pge-a11
1 SUB-HARNESS, CRANK SENSOR 37501-pge-a10
1 SUB-HARNESS, TDC (1-2) 37841-pge-a10
1 PULLEY, TIMING BELT DRIVE 13621-pge-a11
2 SENSOR ASSY., TDC 37840-pge-a11
1 PLATE ASSY., FR. TIMING BELT BACK COVER 11860-pge-a10
of course there are still the standard parts that you might need if you don't already have it like the shifter assembly, clutch master cylinder, clutch pedal, smaller brake pedal, shifter cable, engine harness, etc...
but most important of all you'd need to be able to know how to wire it all up. I let someone else to do the wiring so I don't know too much about the wiring nightmare that is involved.
But if you want the J35 block with J32 heads, you'd need to worry about the valve clearance because the valve groove on the J35 pistons doesn't provide enough clearance so you'll need to change those out.

Yeah, I've heard I can use either the RL pistons, which would bring the CR to like 11.0:1 or the CL-S pistons bringing the CR to around 10.5:1. In that case, I think I'd rather go with the RL pistons and stay N/A.
