Default New transmission - New problem

I got a new noise and a new vibration. The vibration is very apparent at start up. While parked revving the engine causes it to vibrate. You can feel it before the car is in gear.

This problem that occured right after the trans was installed. But i don't think it is the transmission that is the problem. The transmission seems to be working fine.

Anyone ever have this problem? Could the mechanic have missed something when he had the trans and clutch out?

Can you take any guesses before i go back to the mechanic?

a bad motor mount?

Or could this be several different things and someone is just going to have to work on it? Should i consider hiring a pshycic?

I welcome any suggestions and ideas. Thanks

First off, THANK YOU!

I can feel it and hear it. The other tranny was so noisey that i'm hesitant to say that i have a new noise.

But the vibrating is definitely new! Definite! So i conclude that the associated noise is also new.

The tranny mechanic showed me a broken 'motor mount' that he replaced while doing the trans and clutch.

Another mechanic listened to the engine rev, idle, etc and he guessed maybe a bad motor mount. But he'd have to look at it further to be sure.

A bad motor mount or improperly installed motor mount?

Anyone ever have a bad motor mount? What could be causing the new vibration/noise?

Help me, please.

i had the same problem, my car vibrated alot but i could tell that something was wrong, turns out some of my bolts fell out of my aftermarket motor mounts causing the motor to sag a little bit. check all of your mounts

Adjust your clutch. It could be just grazzing the surface. My prelude did that so much that I had to stop driving it for a bit until I had time to adjust. Luckily for you, the EF is simply a **** you turn to tighten the cable.

Default thanks for feedback

Thanks Lude and EF,

And could it be the clutch? It happens when the car is not even in gear.

I stopped by his place twice today and he was out getting parts. Maybe this will have an easy fix.

Thanks all again.

EDIT

[How hard is it to replace a motor mount?]

Ooops, sorry, please ignore that question. That's something that i can figure out on my own from reading chapter 2 of the Haynes manual. Mounts don't seem to be a major problem.

mounts are a fairly easy 1 hour job if you have access to a few simple air tools and a floor jack and a piece of wood

Most likely its your farthest passenger side tranny mount. There cheap to replace but you might just have some loose bolts

All you need is a 14/17/19 mm wrench to get the sucker off of the car

Good luck

Tranny mounts suck to get off. If you get it off support the tranny with a jack in a safe location (casing closest to the engine). When it's done bolt the mount to the car, jack the tranny up and bolt it to the tranny.

If your an accountant you should be smart enough to see how much money you save by just popping your hood and doing the easy ****

You think I knew **** about cars a year ago? I can swap motors and have them running in a day now.

Just ******* do it

Pink was exactly right in this case. While going back and forth between two mechanics the problem was discovered.

While the hood was up I touched the bolts on the mounts with my bare hand. One nut was very loose and the other somewhat loose. Tightened the bolts. Dramatic improvement.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

I have an automatic hatch and the rear motor mount needs to be replaced. It virbrates like CRAZY and makes a lot of noise and the whole car vibrates. It is even worse when the engine is cold. I would guess that.

haha, check them with your fingers man

But yes, mounts do wear and crack.

you can buy a whole set off of ebay of brand new direct replacement stock mounts for cheap and pay someone MAYBE 2 hours labour to install them

Or you can buy some performance inserts and slip them into the mount holes, itll stiffen up your motor a bit, but itll stop the moutns from breaking any further

Doesnt sound like you want performance though

PM me if you have any specific questions
