how does Vtec work in simple terms?

everyone i ask gives me this big long explanation where it just seems like they are makin up wut their saying so you guys be the pros and let me know thx?

Engine Reaches a Certain RPM.. then your ECU will check for the following
OIl pressure - Must be at least 55psi
Water Temp- must be at least 140 degrees F
Speed- Must be going 10 mph
And once that certain RPM Hits. The Vtec solenoid activates and Oil pressure pushes a Pin to Lock the Rocker Arms together and it activates the High Cam lobe.
