Default Car acts funny??

I bought my car with some stuff already done to it, (Still finding out new things)I started my car the other day and the timing belt squealed like mad. Turned it off fired it back up and it ran just fine. When i hit 4k rpms i was suprised by how fast it was taking off. I have never driven a v-tec car but it fealt like a huge difference. I checked the timing belt when i got home and it seems very tight, it wasn't making much noise i but some belt conditioner on it and it made it silent. How do i know if i need a new timing belt. How can i tell if i have a vtec. Stupid questions i know but im short on time and not to good at searching. Anyone near Hernando MS,memphis TN want to help me change the t-belt. I dont have much money but you'd make a freind for life, heh like anyone cares about that anymore. I need to change my fuel pump i have no idea if it's been replaced

Ok first off, to find out if you have VTEC, look for the engine stamp on the block, on the left side near where it mates to the tranny there's a square plaque, clean it off and tell us what it says. Is it single or dual cam? Probably the noise you hear isn't the timing belt, more likely the alternator belt, that thing is a bitch to get tight enough. How many miles are on the car? That would give an idea as to whether you should do the timing belt.
As always... more details!

lol...

1990 Honda Crx si Current everyday show/race car<-----this dont add up to the questions you are asking haha...but anywho timing belt pretty easy depending on what tools you have and what not, the hardest part is breaking the damn pulley bolt off. And for fuel I dont know what you would change that unless it dont work. I change the fuel filter though and its on the firewall before you go messing with the pump cause you have to drop the gas tank to get to that...and to tell if you have vtec lol just look to the right of the motor and look for the solenoid or just toss the stamped number at us on engine

i already changed the alternator. It went out i took it to autozone to get the lifetime warrenty one. I put the thing in my car by taking off the axle my charge light goes off. Everytime i drive the car it wont restart, lights go low, sound system cuts off. Come to find out i had a high output alternator. To get a new one is going to cost me 700$ so always try to get your alternator rebuilt. That's just one story of how unlucky and stupid i can be........

To my questions though, you misunderstood the vtec part. This car has had a lot of stuff done on it that i dont really know about, It had wires going everywhere that weren't connected to anything the Used car lot i got it from took out the tach alarm, neons, and some other stuff. I want to know if it has a vtec head on it... Like not stock like you can put a y8 vtec head on an a6. I've checked the block code it's an A6 im not that new to honda's just never had a vtec one. Should there be some wire going to the head, what oil should i run?? it's got 230k miles. The title says it's been rebuilt. I dont know if its the original motor or not it runs great most of the time. Everyonce in awhile it will be really quick.

Where are the plugs, on the front or rear of the head? What does the valve cover say on it?

On the rear of the head, passenger side, there is a cylinder for the VTEC solenoid.

Sorry it's not very clear, it's the only one I have. This is looking from the pass side, the dizzy is the black thing on the right, clutch cable going down the middle/right of the pic. The rusty/corroded thing in the middle with the single black wire and plug coming out is the VTEC solenoid. The other D series heads have casting to put it there, but nothing attached to it.

Your alternator problem sounds like the one a friend of mine had, I'm telling you man just tighten that thing better. Use a bar or screwdriver and lean back on it before you tighten it. It should not cost 700 bucks for an alternator, that's absurd!

yeah it's got a plug going to it but im not sure if it looks like that one. I kinda doubt it is one though i forgot what it says on the valve cover but it doesn't say v-tec i was just kinda hoping it still could be how hard is it to put a y8 on an a6. Guess i'll research it later to bad i wont have time until next tuesday. I'll check the alt. thanks for the help

Where are the spark plugs, front or back? Does the valve cover look like this:

or are the plugs on the front part and it says "HONDA" or has the H logo on the back? You can always take the valve cover off and look at the inside, it would be easy to see if you have VTEC by looking at the cam.
It's not too bad getting the Y8 head on there, I can help you out with it... as soon as I get mine working haha. Really though the hard part is in the wiring and stuff, putting the head on physically is cake.
