The cheapest ones tend to be the most lightweight since they have thinner layers of carbon and a thinner fiberglass skeleton. Look for generic ones on ebay or other sources.
I have a VIS CF hood on my USDM and it is pretty lightweight. I'm not sure of the weight specs on it but it is a big difference from the factory hood. It looks good and lines up suprisingly well. I'm probably going to sell it if I can come across a factory hood for mine.
Don't go for just l/w... remember it's carbon either way so your saving weight. The cheaper hoods are just that... CHEAP! I've seen cheap CF hoods where the latch hook breaks from the cheap skeleton and the hood flies open on the freeway. The cheaper hoods also tend to fade really bad. You own a Type R, do it justice and look for a decent hood the first time.

I've got a VIS Invader hood @ the moment. Great hood but I'm selling it to day cause the way the vent is made it has rubbed a couple of bear marks on my R's valve cover.
The VIS quality I'm very pleased w/ & would buy another but just wondering if there was another quality hood maker out there.
Afriend of mine is buying my Invader hood today & I'll just throw the stock 1 on for a bit.
As far as the issue if hood pins go, I'd love to do away w/ them cause I prefer the smoother look but, on the DC2 body aerodynamics of the car tend to make the hood want to lift in the front @ highway speeds. I know a guy who has 1 on his GSR w/ no pins but I'm waiting for the thing to fly up 1 day. God I hope it doesn't.

I drove 80-85 consistently for 15 hours a few months back and had absolutely no issues with the hood what so ever. Very sturdy IMO.
I got my OEM style cf hood from Bodykits NW. Great guys, fast shipping(and I'm in Canada, so that says a lot) and a great product. Even a good price.

I've heard they make good carbon stuff (bodykits nw), also try Seibon, VIS and Seibon are very comparible if you liked your VIS hood.

I have a Fiber Images one for my Teg. Looks to be really good quality. Won't know how everything is since my car is in the shop and the hood is at my house. The previous owner said it was a good hood and fitment was great.
