Engine list - post water repairs
Ok, got a question for you engine folks. I'm looking to compile a list of components in the engine compartment that rotate, or have ball bearings, etc, that can be damaged by being submerged for an hour or so...
For example, the alternator will work even after being dunked in water however the bearings if water gets in there will make significant noise and degrade until they fail.
So what else... working on replacing parts before they fail on my EJ1

Nope, engine wasn't running. This was how the story was related to me, car was parked and the university is to cheap to have cement blocks in the parking spaces, so either the clutch popped or the ebrake slipped (shrug) and the car rolled down a hill into a pond. Submerged up to the roof, and was towed out an hour later.
So far, replaced fluids, drained gas tank, cleaned electronics, replaced fuses and the car still runs. BUT trying to compile a list of parts to keep an eye on, as I said things like the alternator bearings giving up, etc etc

Nice. So, how on earth did your car just take a swim in the lake? Sounds like someone either pushed your **** in, or you had a little too much to drink and blamed it on the clutch or E-brake. . . just a thought.
I would pull out all the carpet too. That **** will get stinky.

I wasn't even driving it that day, and I do somewhat suspect the pushing but after fingerprinting the back, nothing came up. As for how it went in, you'd have to see the layout, let me see if the article is still up... yep

So yeah, if you look at the photo, the parking spot has a white looks like a dodge stratus in the spot my civic was in, to the left of the red car. It rolled down the hill, in between both trees and didn't hit anything...
...and DEC said no spillage into the pond, thankfully.
