Default !!water in the engine question!!

I've already searched and found nothing that relates to what happened to me. All of the other posts included cars that did not start after water intake. Mine on the other hand did start but...there's a constant clanking sound coming from (what i think to be) by the pulleys of the engine. but being that the engine is running, wouldn't it be wrong to say that there is something wrong with the engine itself. so what had happened was that i ran into a huge puddle of water when i was in neutral and as i drove home the clanking continued. when i reached my house, i popped the hood to see that there was water sitting on the intake manifold, radiator fans, valve cover...etc, so can anyone tell me what could this noise possibly be or what to check for? also how to go about any further procedures such as letting sit and dry because that's what it's doing right now.

Water injestion and almost caused hydro lock but you got lucky and bent some valves. Preform a compression test on all four. I'm not saying this is right but it is a common thing that happens with water injestion. you can't compress water so something has to give, and valves are it.

damn that sucks, ah well at least the whole head isn't shot. if the engine is still running how much damage (or bent valves) do you think has happened? and how much do you think it'll cost?

All depends, how many valves and how much the shop charges for an hour of labor. Might as well have your water pump and timing belt done at the same time. Best of luck!

ok i'm planning on doing the compression test when i get my car out of the shop..getting paint...being that the car is running fine and there seems to be no loss in power, what do you guys think the problem could be other than possible bent valves, could it need a valve adujustment or maybe the fuel injectors? should i use some dry gas or fi cleaner and see what happens?

I read somewhere that a guy had water in his engine, it drove/sound fine and 2 months later a cylinder shot out of his block or something

my CEL came on the other day, and I took it to the dealership today to get it checked out and the told me some water may have gotten in my AEM intake and caused the o2 sensor to freak out and the engine to run lean, hints why the CEL came on. but im definately going to clean my intake tommorow, but heres my question: i want to do a compression check, but i dont know how to do it...?
