aftermarket tach. light dims when dash brightens
ok so ive had this tach installed for a while, autometer tach. ever since ive had it, the light has been burned out. well i just recently got a new bulb for it and niticed it was REALLY dim. so i started playing with the dimmer. and when i turn the dimmer to to brighten, the dash lights brighten, but the light on the tach gets dimmer, and vice versa, when i dim the lights, the dash dims, and the tach brightens. WTF is going on here?
when i wired the illumination light up on the tach, there were 2 wires for the dash lights. did i hook it up to the wrong wire? is that the cause of this?

You well may have connected to the wrong wire, where did you make the connection, and what color was the wire you connected to?
A dash light has 2 wires red/black wire, [12V+ off a fuse in fuse box, hot when light switch on] and a red wire, [ground from "Dashlights Brightness Controller"] I bet your connected to a red.

yea i dont remmeber which one i hooked it to. i probably put it on the red thinking that red/black was ground, lol, ill take a look.
yep, well that was the problem lol. now the tach is on full brightness when the lights are on. since its not hooked to the dimming circuit.
but damn the tach is bright. wish i could dim JUST the tach, or set it up seperately. hmm

I had the same problem, like a freight train coming at you, there are 2 things you can do, on my tach I changed the bulb to a lower watt one and yellow, [much better] on a friends, [no longer on warranty] I opened it up and isolated the bulb ground, ran a ground lead for the bulb out along with the rest of the leads so I could connect both the pos. and the neg. to the cars dash light circuits, [also changed to a lower watt bulb and an orange one to match his dash lights] not that hard to do, and worked very well, as soon as the warranty is up on mine I will do the same thing to it.
