Tranny Drop/Reinstall - Easiest Way By Yourself? Without Damaging Clutch
So aparently I popped a tranny last night by myself, literally 10 min after my girlfriend to or I woulda been even more pissed but hey **** happens
Its a 88 Crx si with a d16a6 with d16a6 tranny
Im pretty sure you just take out both axles, battery, starter. Motor bolts and then pry it away right?
I will have to do this bymyself cause im such short notice and ive only got use to a floor jack
Is there anyways Im gonna be able to do this myself?

I have a jack with a very narrow base so I used a jack stand, a jack and a 1x8 piece of wood between the to set the tranny on, after that it was only a matter of jacking up the one side until the transmission lined up.
Do you guys unbolt the tranny from the mounts or the mounts from the car?
Obviously it cant be done it 45 min, axles alone will take that or more, plus all the little ****

Axles can take 45 min, but don't have to. I'm not as fast as these guys, but from time of first touching the car with a jack to having the tranny out, I can probably do it in 2 hours pending nothing goes wrong.
I unbolt the mounts from the car. But to get it back in I remove the mount from the tranny.

Axles are a 15min job at most if you are experienced. I too have taken the tranny out and changed the clutch then reassembled my crx within 2hours.I use a jack to support the engine then remove the mount unbolt the tranny, then lower the jack slightly to tip the motor downwards then slide the tranny off. Need to pry sometimes as the dowels get stuck, but not a big problem.
I dont know why it would take 45 minutes to pop axles out, really isnt all that hard all.
Usually, I will unbolt the lower ball joint, then slip the axles out of the trans while they are still attached to the hubs. This takes like 10 minutes to unbolt the LBJ and 2-5 to pop each axle out of the trans/intermediate shaft.

As far as getting the tranny out by yourself goes... I always just get under there and drop it down onto my chest. <--- I love civic transmissions!!
It takes a little muscle getting it back in there because you have to hold it steady and line up the input shaft into the clutch disk and flywheel. I usually swear a lot and it takes me a few tries, but it's possible without any help.
I've done it more times than I want to remember.
Good luck!
P.S. Do like the guy above me suggested and leave the axles attached to the hubs. That way you don't have to deal with the axle nuts.

This is also a good way to do it if you're doing it alone. The tranny isn't all that heavy at all..
Just need some time to line it up by yourself while putting the tranny bolts back on the block. Cuss words usually are being thrown out at this point. But remember, your not alone!

Took my tranny out in 1 hour, replaced some ****, put it back in and got her running, all the time it took was 4 hours. It can be done in less with the right tools. If it takes you more then 20 minutes to pull your axles, stop, you don't have the right tools to do everything else.
