Default Aftermarket Headunit Compatibility

so i searched and sadly came up with nothing. i have decided to upgrade the stock headunit to something better and more preferably is ipod hook-up compatible. what headunits do you recommend that do not stick out too far as to prevent the radio door cover from being shut?

Alpine 9831(?) w/ DCI. I used to run an iPod, but now, I just burn MP3 files onto the CD's.

Most AM headunits will work, btw.

I use a Pioneer DEH-8600 with the XM satallite radio kit and iPod connector kit. Like the rest, hardly use iPod cuz of XM and it plays MP3s/WMAs etc...
Trust me tho, any of these aftermarket's and you should replace your components i.e. 6.5" in the door, and hi's (mine also has hi's behind the headreast thing). But it still sounds good with the stock speakers... way better than the piece of **** stock one

Basically all the newer Alpine units have a built in IPod interface, you might have to buy the cable but that's it.

Last years models required a separate "interface" box/amplifier. I have a 9833 and I love it. It works great.

If I were you, go with Alpine and you'll be happy

it's a hell of a custom install to get a flip up screen to fit in the stock location which is why most people opt for the built in jdm-esque dash screen...look at how far in the stock headunit sits...the only flipup screens that i've seen actually work end up hitting peoples hand if they shift with a proper grip...but its just such a difficult install because there isn't room straight up for a screen so you'd have to move it closer to the shifter to clear the air vents...

and i'm rocking the headunit that i had in my rsx...a pioneer premier deh-p940mp with modifry's IR DCI...looks perfect in the car (a lot better than it did in the rsx)

WEFYB?

Did anybody really put a dvd flip out screen on their s2k? wouldn't it hit the vent/dash part?

yes there is one out there. personally, i think screens in the car are distracting and dumb. they belong elsewhere. but if you're really into the bling, its your car do whatever.

Hmm I would like to see some pictures of flip out dvds in an s2k, I want to see the clearance from the vent/dash and the monitor.

If anyone has any, please post em up! thanks!

Here is a retard or what should be obvious DUH question. Can you retain the factory radio controls on the dash if you get an after-market unit? Or do you have to get the modifry harness to use it?
