how do you measure the advance provided by a chopped head?

.012=1 degree?

when milling a head or running a thinner headgasket, you RETARD the cam timing. this applies to all the honda prior to 2001 (s2k excluded) all the newer honda motors spin the other direction (clockwise) so, it is the opposite. as far as rule of thumb goes, got me...get it on a dyno and figure out what works best.

.012=1 degree, you are correct. But it retards the timing not advance. You advance to get back to true zero.
