What Tranny Fluid in an LSD Tranny?
I put regular honda MTF in my tranny (which I believe has an LSD in it), and someone told me that I should be using something specific for trannies with LSD in it. Honda only has their stock MTF - what are you guys using on your ITR trannies?

Most of us are probably using Honda MTF, I know I am.

Wish that stuff was available in North America. I'd like to give it a try.
To the OP: Honda MTF is just fine. It's all I've ever used.

I am currently using Redline 75W90 Gear Oil.
It was put in by the mechanic when I sent the car for servicing. He claims it's the best for an LSD. I am guessing it is too heavy?
"75W90 Gear Oil - recommended for most street driven and racing differentials. Excellent performance in conventional and limited-slip units. Also for limited-slip manual transaxles which require a 90 WT oil. Contains limited-slip friction modifiers. "
I am wondering if it is ok? I have a 98 Spec JDM R engine with LSD.
Some specs here http://www.redlineoil.com/pdf/5.pdf

I didn't believe this until I used some in my B18B swapped hatch. It was starting to grind bad in every gear even during low rpm daily driving type shifting. Drained the tranny, put in some GM synromesh and within a week the low rpm grind was completely gone and it now only rarely grinds at high rpm when really yanking on it.
The weird thing is how it didn't cure the problem immediately. It took about a week of "breaking in" to reach peak results.

Someone in a recent and similar thread pointed out that the way viscosity is measured for gear oil is different.
A Castrol rep once told me that their 85w90 gear oil was about the same as using their 20w50 motor oil.
Personally I have always used Honda MTF in the B tranny LSD. The K tranny LSD has Motul in it, but I am not sure I'll be able to find it when it's time to change the oil.

stock type-r diff you can use factory honda MTF, personal i use redline mtf with a 1/2 quart of honda A/T fluid mix, Seems to work really good with quaife and i am one of about 5 techs in the shop using it.
In my past I have alway thought that Honda MT did not like thick fluid. Currently I am running Penzoil GL5 Gear Oil 75w-90 and love it, I also have a clutch pack lsd.

So I guess my Redline 75W90 Gear oil is not too slick? I'm loving mine too...very very smooth and easy shifts even on cold starts.....seems to be getting better mileage too now.

one has friction modifier printed in it and one dont. your bottles are probably round, thats the regular syncromesh. the syncromesh with friction modifier is in a bottle thats more square. from my understanding the corvette trannys use the syncromesh with friction modifier, so if the dealer ship doesnt sale alot ov corvettes usully they dont have the syncromesh with friction modifier on stock(or that at least what i found out in my area).the part number for the "friction modified" fluid is 12377916
