Default questions about trailing arm bushings and replacement

I know that this question has been asked thousands of times, and I did try to search, but didn't find a straight answer.

I have the energy suspension complete bushing kit along with the trailing arm bushing kit, I know that you are supposed to use the stock hardware with the T/A bushings. My question is what method have you guys used to remove the old bushing and install the new ones? It appears that the entire trailing arm has to be removed from the vehicle. is this correct? I hate to open the brake system and fool with that damn E brake cable if i don't have to. I have a press to get the new bushing in, is there any easier way?? any tips on this topic would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Chris

Yeah I need to do this too. From the research I've come across, you either blow torch the rubber out of there or somehow remove as much of the rubber as you can and then take a wire brush attached to a drill and clean the rubber out. Then drive the new bushings in by coating the bushings well with grease. However, I was thinking that I might be able to take a rubber mallet or something and bang it in there somehow. Here's a link I found that might be helpful. Go down 2/3s of the page and it gets into the trailing arm bushing.

http://overboost.com/story.asp?id=426

Please keep me posted on the project. B16ED4G, where did you get the trailing arm bushings and how much?

Here's the way they say to do it......

It's not necessary to remove the arm from the car.

I just bought the prothane rear trailing arm bushing kit. It comes with all the hardware so you just press out the old ones, and press in the new ones.

To all those who wanted to save $100 and spend 4 more hrs on this, have a worse set of bushings, and nto have the adjustability the prothanes have

Don't bother with the ES bushings... you'll be cursing the day you bought them. Just get the prothanes

7PSI CRX, have you done this install or are you just posting the instructions? If so, what are your thoughts on the ES bushings. They're hella cheaper and I wouldn't need to have them pressed in. My Si is stock anyways, I just need to replace my shot stocky ones.

I installed the ES T/A bushings on my crx. You really need to remove the trailing arm to do it right. The old bushings is a bitch to remove. The easiest way is to take it to a muffler shop and have them melt out as much of the old bushing with a torch. I then cleaned the pin on a wire wheel grinder. The last step was using a 1/4 drive dremel with sanding cartriges to remove all rubber on the shell.

Just a propane torch and a screwdriver to push the crap out.

Heat the metal around the bushing, don't set the bushing on fire!

Get it hot enough, and it'll slide right out.

Then heat it a little more and wipe it with a rag and it'll be clean.

I have a '91...Rear disc brakes, did not mess with the hydraulics at all.

Clean up the pin with a razor/sandpaper.

Reinstall.

Easy.

*NOTE* take notice of which side of the pin faces the outside of the car. One side has a hole, the other side a slot.

Yes, I removed the whole trailing arm. Just a matter of the caliper bracket and the E-brake cable. (for me)

I also drilled a few small holes in the pin and drilled and tapped a 1/8 NPT thread and added a grease fitting.

(The pin is hollow)

As a matter of fact, I just greased them Monday.

I've never seen the prothanes, but the ES ones are 10000X better than the broken stock ones that were in there to begin with.
