Default Want to turbo a D16A1 with DOHC for dirt track racing.

Need some help!!! I have a 89 Acura Integra RS with a D16A1 with DOHC and very much needs more Horsepower. Thinking on Turbo charging but cant seem to find any exhaust manifolds for this set up. Will any others work? Do I need to fabricate one myself? What would be the best turbo for quick spooling up. Does anybody have any advice to add HP to this car? Dirt track is 1/4 mile oval and the car needs more mid-range (3500-5000 rpm) coming out of the corners. Car has an automatic tranny also, which I keep in D3 to let it kick down to help with the the rpms. Thanks for any help.

Doesn't the SOHC header work on it? If so, you can use any D SOHC turbo manifold for it.

What I would do in your situation is run a 14b or dsm t25 with an HF manifold, no intercooler, alcohol or water injection, and a decent transmission cooler in the front, where the ic would be. I don't know how cheap/free ems's like Turboedit etc work with auto trans though.

cause heat buildup and cause detonation under racing conditions. even at low boost heat builds up fast. you need an intercooler of some sorts. if nothing else a water to air unit would do even if it was home made.

what about water injection? since it's a racecar it's more practical than water injection on a street car. plus it would free up room in the front for an oil cooler. this is just what I would do though, do whatever the expletive you want.

SOHC eshaust/turbo manifold will work. I would look at a smaller turbo that will build quick like a T25 or 15G and definately run an intercooler.

Ok, I bought a T25 turbo and it came with an intercooler, also got a manifold. Do I need to increase the size of my injectors or will the stock be fine? Do I need to send off my computer to get chipped or just run a FMU? Still thinking on the water injection, with the intercooler would I still need it?

Depends, how long do you expect to stay in boost? An FMU is a cheap band-aid fuel setup. Does it work?....yes. Does it work well?....not most of the time.

You'll need bigger injectors unless you want to run dangerously high fuel pressures. Crome, or Uber or whatever free software should be able to run a simple setup like this.

Boost time wouldn't be long (5-15 seconds-straightaway, then 5 second pause, corner- 15 lap race so this would happen 30 times at minimum). What size injectors would I need to go to.

Because you're running an automatic transmission I don't know what your ECU tuning options are, but there is always the FMU and MSD BTM option. This combo could very well be perfect for what you want, but I'll let someone with more experience tell you.
