Default Steering rack problem? Wheel shakes like crazy...

Heyo...

Just a quick question to all. This problem seems to get worse and worse. Whenever I am driving there is minimal shaking in my steering wheel...nothing to out of the blue. But every once in a while at certain speeds it shakes more than usual. And when I hit any sort of bump the steering wheel shakes like crazy. It scares me sometimes when I am driving cuz It feels like its just gonna rip to the side.

Just wondering if this could be a problem with my steering rack. I know a buddy of mine had some of the same issues and replaced his and it is all twight like a twiger now.

Thanx.

are your tires properly infalted and balanced? It could be a lot of things but usually we have problems with rack end bushing inside the steering rack and that could account for the shaking.

When that happened to me it was because my tires were overinflated and growing bubbles.

Check the tires.

loose or worn out suspension bad shocks. Bent rim... if it does it when you hit a bump i would check your shocks,

I agree Highly doubtful that the rack itself is bad, usually bushings / tie rods. Grab a front wheel front and back (off the ground) and check to see if it moves. Shake it. There shouldn't be any play. If there is, have a friend do that while you are under the car looking for the parts that move.

the steering rack end bushing does go bad, but i have a feeling its more than that considering the severity of shaking based on your description.

yeah, check for bad tires. also shocks. and of course any loose bolts.

Shocks, bushings, tie rod ends, rims, tires and much more can go wrong.
