the only good honda, honda ever made
I agree that the RC is a great bike but not the best. That thing looks stock anyway. Ever hear of a bike called the RC211V?...you may have heard of it
i LOVE the rc51 and all, but i would probably vote for the rc45 before that. If i could have a kid, and sell him to get an rc45, i totally would.
I also like the New American Sport concept bike that honda made.

rc51 powerplant with some cool goodies like single sided fork and swingarm, plus, one of the intake ducts actually goes all the way to the back of the bike where it passes air through the tail mounted radiator.

can someone clue me in about why the RC51 gets all the hype...like compare it to the CBR1000R, main key differences besides the V and the I-4; and why people like it so much...

The RC51 has got a great racing pedigree imo. Those were the days.. Ducati vs. Honda.

actually, after reading the recent article in motorcyclist magazine about the RC174, i'm thoroughly impressed.

This was practically the most amazing piece of engineering i've ever read about. I must have read the article 20 times over.

Yeah of the production Hondas the NR750 is not only the best Honda ever made, it is the most innovative and technologically advanced motorcycle ever made. Sure stuff will come along that raises the bar but that bike stepped into a place motorcycles had never been (much like the McLaren F1 did for supercars).
The RC51 is my favorite of the Honda homologated specials but I can't say it is unequivocably better than the NSR250, FWS1000, RC30, or RC45. Each has its special place in Honda's history.
It would be somewhat unfair to compare it to Hondas GP bikes.

The NR750 was an over priced slug of uglyness. It didn't set any performance records although spares prices were pretty amusing. The RC30 is still the only Honda road biek of modern ages that was actually built with HRC. It is also the only bike that has proper pedigree (by that I dont mean the odd Championship here and there I mean dominance) on the track. It is a true legend. The Fireblade is a better bike than the 51 IMO and did way more to move the scene on, lets face it the RC51 was a response to the Ducati cup, the Fireblade redefines superbikes with a smaller engine and lower mass.

the 851/888 gave the RC30 all it could handle... the 45 won multiple championships although the 916 ran circles around it until Kocinski got hold of the RC45
Hence the introduction of the 51... Not entirely successful, but a great bike anyway.
The NR750 is a road going/detuned off shoot of the Oval Piston FWS1000 HRC Factory bike. Not entirely Successful, but beautiful with out a doubt. The FWS1000 was built for one reason... to win daytona against Kenny Roberts and the TZ dominance that Yamaha had on daytona at that time. Think about that, Honda went out and not only built, but invented a new technological/engine layout to win one race. That's why I always hated Honda, they seemed to buy the championships, but I have come full circle... Honda is the ****! Now if they only release that 5 for the street.

I would expect a lighter more powerful bike would be quicker, shame they didn't race them against the 1000's where they would have been eaten. I have never liked the way Ducati (and to a lesser degree Aprillia) have never been able to confront the big four with a like for like design and instead get the rules bent to benefit themselves. WSB aka the Ducati Cup is a joke.
If you are talking about race bikes forget everything bar the NSR500, nothing gets close. Road bikes you could have the 750 four, the 400 four, Blade, RC30, CBR6..lets face it Honda have had more innovative class leaders than anyone else. Ducatis on the road are a joke, unreliable and expensive to keep. Honda does now what it always has, provided cheap reliable transport to the masses, some of them go well too.
