Default loose shifter, energy suspension bushings already installed

alright heres the deal. my 91 rex has a loose shifter and it's starting to drive me crazy. when i swapped my b16 the shifter bushings were replaced with energy suspension bushings, so the shifter stabalizer bar is good and tight. but the shift bar is very loose. in gear i can move the shifter about 7 inches side to side. my question is how could i fix this?

what did you use for the pin that connects the shift linkage to the transmission? you know.... the b!tch pin. if that connection isn't solid then a lot of play like this can happen. other than that it is possible that the u-joints could be worn out on your new shift linkage, but that excessive doesn't sound like its the problem.

check that pin and get back to me.

change the pin and get a b&m edge short shifter. nice and tight. your car's shifter will feel virgin again.

Default Loose shifter

This is the part I replaced on mine, and no more wobbly shifter.

my bushings on my shifter bar went bad, you know the ones that are 3" out from the tranny side that alloow the shifter to pivot up and down and left and right. and also my hasport shift linkage, those same bushing went bad 2 months after i bought the linkage. also on my friends DA he has the same problem

Double agree, when I first put in my dohc zc I got the ES bushings and still had play. Got up under while a friend shifted around and there was massive play there.

I replaced the entire shifter rod, and I no longer had the shifter that would go six inches in either direction while it was in gear. I wouldn't think it would matter what engine (or transmission) you have whether or not the shifter would move while in gear.

The mileage may vary is just my way of saying that it worked for me and may or may not work for you. Just a little humor.

if you have the hasport mounts, buy the hasport linkage. my first linkage bushings took a dump on my 2 months after i put it in. i told hasport, they told me i had to buy the one linkage piece for $75 and once i returned my old one they would refund it, which they did and everything worked out. 6 months later my new hasport linkage is working fine no play
