EP3 Gas Mileage question...
I know it's been discussed before but I thought I'd test it out for myself and get some concrete evidence. But recently my gas light came on and indicated that I was running low on gas, so instead of pulling in to fill up....I restarted my trip meter and I thought I'd push her to the limits and see how far I can push my luck before I run out of gas. I have a 2 gallon container of gas in my trunk incase my luck runs out, but so far I've drove 31 miles with that light on.
How far has anyone ever gone when that light comes on and how far do you THINK I would beable to go before I'm totally empty?

I coulda sworn I heard somewhere that when that light comes on, it means that there is only 2 gallons of gas left in the tank....and with 26 miles per gallon, the max amount that someone should be able to travel when that light comes on is 52 miles. But that's assuming that this rumor is true.

yea so is turning up your boost to see how fast you can go. people still do that.

i've gone over 70 miles after the light came on, i figure it comes on with like 3 gallons left. btw, how would running you car out of gas be bad for the fuel filter? pump maybe cuz they don't like to run dry - but filter? anxious to hear the logic on that one.......
My guess would be that the filter element is meant to be wet, at all times. A very thin paper might crack if meant to be wet, then immediately goes dry with forced air on it. The air coming from the lack of gas.

Well I read that it gets 26 city miles per gallon and 30 highway miles per gallon

ep3 guage is "pessimistic". i made an extra 60+ miles before i lost my nerve driving home for the holidays last year.
i drive 20 miles to work, one way. 2/3 is highway. i average 32mpg if i'm not driving like and asshat.
