Default Accord alternators; interchangeable newer OEMs??? 1990 with what?

I want to replace the alternator in my 1990 Accord EX. Is it possible to use the alternator from a newer model year Accord (or even Civic, for that matter)? The engine is the F22A4 4 cyl SOHC. I will try to get the Honda part number if that would help (probably only if getting it from a Honda dealer). Thanks.

An alternator from a 4th gen has the same chassis as from the 6th gens, but you'll have to swap the voltage regulator. (OEM power plug and circuit board beneath it)

I did this when I swapped a built 180amp alt from my 90 accord lx to my 99 accord lx.

Thanks for the reply and info. Does the alternator chassis carry forward into the 7th gen 4 cyl engines?

I was looking at parts lists. The alternators have different part numbers. Some of this is because the alt was provided for the same year by more than one manufacturing supplier. Then each Accord generation has an alternator with different part numbers perhaps due to amps differences, but not great changes.

Is it safe to say that all alternators are interchangeable within the 1990 thru 1997 Accord years?

Is the built-in regulator/rectifier attached inside the back of the alternator?

I'm sure each alternator would have a different part number since the plugs are different. From what i remember, the plug is connected to a circuit board type device that I believe is the voltage regulator. I removed both to swap my alternators.

I don't have any experience about 5th or 7th gen 4cyl Accords, though I would guess the 5th gen is the same as 4th and 6th.
