Default Diff Fluid

Alright, after driving the car for almost a week I have noticed a noise and I think I have pin pointed when it occurs.

It is a difficult sound to describe but it sounds like a metallic hum (hollow sound like bad brakes dragging) It occurs when I am coasting doesn't really matter what speed (but occurs more often with even numbers don't knw why)and when there is VERY light throttle pressure, and sometimes it is easier to do then other times and it usually is not for a prolonged perod of time unless I am gonig down will. It comes from over my right shoulder. So I am guessing it is the diff.

I don't think it is something I should be overly concerned with, the car drives good, occasional clunking (usually after the highway at the first stop from 2-1). I know these cars have a tendancy to clunk from the diff.

So I am think it may just really needs it's diff fluid change. I am guessing 75w90 about a quart is needed? Is Royal purple okay?

Wow, that's a lot of help

It doesn't do it all the time. It also sounds like exhaust reverb, usually can get it to do it a 3k and 4k but not anywhere inbetween, before or after. As soon as it gets off 3k it goes away.

well I have read every topic on the only 3 pages this section has and haven't found one relating to the diff. I did searches too.

Would you be so kind as to post a link. The car has a 12mth.12k warrenty and it's going in monday for a radio swap so i will have them look at that anyways.

Hum while decelerating = clutch buzz.

Royal Purple 75W90 is perfect. I've used it on street and track and have had no problems.

Don't worry about it. It's normal drivetrain noise/harmonic resonance. There's nothing wrong with your diff.

Cool. Thanks for the replies.

I will mention it to Honda, just so they have it on record in case something goes wrong.

But I though it was just a normal noise, because it was duplicatable once I figured out the conditions. I would imagine I would have that noise a majority the time if it was bad.

Don't think its the clutch, pedal is fine and it deff. over my shoulder not infront of me.

Thanks for the reply.

I did a search but it's hard when they don't use "rear", "diff" in the title, search no work.

Plus I was a noobie so they don't let me get in to the achives right away.

Update: Honda looked at the car said it was okay, harmonics of the rear, (kind of what I thought, just very different then what I have been use to hearing). Going to change the fluid anyways before the Auto-X on Sunday up in my neck of the woods.
