Default If I can't get an RSX, what do I get?

So, I'm turning 16 in July and am really looking forward to getting my car. After a long period of research and comparison, I decided that the RSX Type-S would be my perfect choice. My brother races autox (is working on finishing up bulding his civic to be race ready) and knows a good bit about Honda motors, and his influence helped in my decision as well. So everything was looking good untill insurance came around, where it was discovered that I could pay less insurance on my mom's '06 ML350 than I would on the Type-S. So, the $4,000 a year I got quoted kind of turned me off, and has pretty much forced me to pick a different car. Can you guys reccommend anything around the same price range and performance (doesn't necessarily have to be a Honda)? I was looking at Si's too, but to me they just look ugly inside and out. Thanks in advance.

This is on my whole family's plan (3 vehicles). They quoted me for paying 4k, while my mom pays 800 for her truck. Being 16 is really going to suck. Heck, just for fun, I got my family's insurance to get a quote for me if I were to get a policy on my own, and it came out to 12k a year. Ridiculous. That's what you get for trying to get a car with an Acura badge on it. =/

But anyway, in response to BoBo, I was also considering a WRX or an Evo maybe. It seems there's easier aftermarket support for the Evo, but either would be nice. I'll talk to my parents about the ideas. Also, how do you guys feel about GTI's? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Get an integra Ls or something where the insurance will be low and then boost it. The only problem with that is since your a new driver, I dont think you would be able to handle the power. So just get an integra/civic drive it around for a year or two then boost it, when you get experienced.

It doesnt matter what you get, you are a 16 year old male driver. The actuarial tables say you will have a wreck. If you cant get under someone elses policy you are going to have to fork out some dough. It sucks but why not pay the insurance and get the car you want. Sounds like the folks are helping you out some already.

I can tell you right now that an EVO is NOT going to be cheaper to insure than the RSX. 286hp turbo? That'll be like 5k under your moms policy. Just buy some used civic/integra and pimp it around till your 18 or so, then get a better car.

the best way to get cheaper insurance if u decided to go w/ the RSX-S is to get Lo-jack, and The Club, it's gonna reduce ur insurance by alot. Or u could go w/ the new Civic Si and add a Lo-Jack ur insurance should be much lower than a RSX.

thats the problem, he cant, insurance is raping him even when its on his parents name

anyways, i think the evo will definently get you killed
i dont know a lot about vw's.. but from what i hear, the new gti's are suppose to be good.. i would check the insurance for the wrx though, those are nice cars, the 04-05 at least.

i have an 04 gti 1.8t and i love it. Then again im 21 and have been driving for 5 years now. im paying $3100 a year in insurance full coverage. 1 speeding ticket, 1 moving violation, and a suspension All of those when i was 18.

Lo-jack installation only lowered my insuarnce by $12 every 6 months Its the peace of mind though.

The new gti's are awesome. Definite upgrade stock vs stock mk4 vs new mk5.

Just list the best driver as the primary driver on your insurance and have them put you driving the cheapest car on there.

Get a late 90's Camry or Geo or something. Pick a car that nobody races, mods, or steals.

I didn't have a car of my own until I was 19, and I was paying for that with money from delivering pizza. Needless to say, insurance almost cost as much as car payments (insurance companies do not like to insure cars used in pizza delivery).

No joke, you wont be disappointed with a civic hatch or an integra. Its like the perfect car for any beginer as well as someone more experienced. Their so easy to modify and you can work on your own car, which makes things so much funner. If a part breaks, its not that expensive to replace and with some research you can always boost it. My first car was a civic and I havnt had as much fun in any other caR ever since. You just dont give a *** if anything happens to it, so you can push the car to its limits.

like i said, you'll regret it, but if the insurance really becomes an issue, integra ls it. my friend boosted his, along with a couple other things, and its pushin 240 hp.
speed isnt the only option either. integras lowered are amazing.

just for some thought, i had a friend that bought a brand new rsx type S, fixed it up with bolt-on's and made it really quick, and added coil overs, and in the end he just sold it because he said it didnt handle like any civics or integra's. He said it didnt give him the same feel he had when he drove any civic or integra. But honestly Rsx is a nice car, get it if you can, just know that theres other cars out there that can equally compare to it

first, be grateful you are fotunate enough to be considering a car like an RSX-S as_your_first_car. i'm not saying you're not, but really, there are bigger sorrows than not getting a car like this.

second, you will crash it or you will get a ticket. possibly both, possibly repeatedly. think the insurance is high now? wait until one or the other happens...it will increase dramatically. antitheft devices do not drastically reduce insurance rates. they only help discount your comprehensive policy. the best i have ever been disounted was 15% (towards my comprehensive policy). honestly, if my car is stolen, i would rather have the insurance company pay out the claim rather than recover it.

driving your car with a parent listed as the primary driver, but you driving the lion's share of the miles is insurance fraud, technically. get_your_own_policy. there is a way to get your own ploicy but still able to fall under the 'umbrella' of your parents' coverage. take your lumps. you adding another policy to your parents' coverage only increases there rates dramatically.

you aren't 18, so any damage you cause, your parents are responsible. think about that. the freedom to own a car is great and your new mobility is certainly intoxicating, but it isn't a right. it certainly isn't worth busting your *** to afford, either. you would be "car poor", barely making ends meet just to afford a car you really can't. get a used car, something cheap, under $8k, learn to do basic repairs on it. if your brother autocrosses hondas, do it with him as a codriver. learn_how_to drive doing this.

it sucks, sure, but it's how it works.

now, to rub salt into the wounds...i pay $73/month for $100 deductibles comp& collision, upgraded medical, uninsured motorist coverage, towing, blah, blah, blah on my 03 si and '92 turbo miata for me and my wife. i[m 33.

any way i see it, you dont need a type s if your 16. period.

if you really want one, you can work your *** off like a lot of people here that have one and buy one of your own.
