Default How does this come apart?- Installing camber kit. help needed!

hey i just picked up the eibach camber kit and i'm trying to take that ball joint out of the upper control arm, i'm following the manual but its calling for a special tool, but i'm sure there's another way so here's what i need to remove any help is appreciated..thanks..

how do i remove this ball joint?

go rent a bsll joint press from autozone, or take that control arm to a shop with one. it shouldnt be too expensive

Some of those don't come apart......You might need a new piece, possibly from a newer model....One that actually can be replaced.....Good Luck

funny thing about that ball joint, on EFs (and I am sure others) you can only buy a new upper ball joint with the upper control arm, they don't sell the ball joint seperatly--it is welded on.

Helm's manual does not show how to replace the UBJ and Honda Parts online (Manchester, San Leandro, etc.) does not sell the ball joint separately. I'm assuming you need to replace the control arms for new ball joint$

Haven't found any aftermarket upper control arms for EFs with replaceable UBJs...There was someone on this forum a while back who posted pics of custom adjustable upper control arms that he fabbed up, but IIRC he's not selling them.

o..if those aren't supposed to come off how does then...i have an incorrect camber kit? here is what i got + the small little instruction/installation sheet...from what i'm reading in the directions and all..that ball join is removable..and is to be replaced with the adjustable camber kit.

here's what the camber kit looks like...this is only one side


and here are the directions.....when read it it says to replace the upper ball joint..so..did i get a wrong camber kit?

I remember reading on here somewhere that it said the 88-89 UCA are diff from the 90-91. The 88-89 balljoints do not come out of the UCA and are all one piece while the 90-91 ones have a criclip that hold them in. Im sure if you search in here you'll be able to find the thread which talked about this. Hope this helps.

hmmm i'll search that but my chassis is a 1990...and i have a donor si chassis as well which is a 1991 and they both look like they're in pretty well....but i'll keep searching..

Make sure its not welded on. Put it in a vice or something solid but so the joint can fall out. Beat the expletive out of it with a big *** hammer. Some PB Blaster helps too. Dont get frustrated took me like 30 mins of wailing on it.

i got the same spc set up on my hatch. I have a 91 the ball joint that you are looking to remove needs to be pressed out with a press, head over to a shop that has a press i payed $10 each to have them removed. You will like the adjustability of the spc uca setup. I dig it.

good luck with that and dont let them charge you to much to press them out!!!

ok ..but i'm still a little confused so i take the control arm..and take it to ANY automotive shop? like what do i exactly tell them...that i want this ball joint removed from this control arm? i mena is that all that i have to mention and they'd know what i'm talking about? i dont know i'm still just a little confused i guess...

Yep, just take the UCA and the new ball joint to anyone who presses things out, NAPA can do this for you, and tell them you need the old one pressed out and the new one pressed in. Should be no problem for them.

o hmm...i dont think the new one...on the camber kit needs to be pressed in..it came bith a bolt+nut so i think that just mounts up...but hmm theres a napa rite down the street i guess i can go to them..thanks a lot this really helps..

the new ones don't have to pressed in... you can do it yourself, just follow the directions. See if there is a clip on the bottom side of the stock ball joint. If there is, you can replace it no prob autozone or advanced auto rents a ball joint remover.
