semi-OT: why does my brother in law's turbo keep blowing oil seals?
my brother in law is on his 3rd turbo on his 350Z. hes got a turbonetics setup, and he told me it was ball bearing. I dont recall exactly which turbo it is. I noticed on his setup, his oil return is WAY BELOW the oil line. he mentioned it to turbonetics, and they said thats fine. I also checked his installation instructions and it indeed does show the tap in the pan really low and he did it exactly as shown in the instructions. he also noted that he has something like 120 psi oil pressure through -3 AN feed line. its my understanding that ball bearing turbos do not need a lot of oil, and definitely not high pressure. he also isnt running any kind of catch can, just has it venting through a valve cover breather.
I dont know if its the same on the Nissan motor or not, but do you think he should try to move the oil return up higher? and run some sort of restrictor for the oil pressure? could it be crankcase pressure related?

turbonetics don't last as long as they should, they aren't the best turbos. How in the hell does he get 120psi?

I think hes going to try to move the drain up, even though they said he shouldnt have to and the instructions clearly state otherwise.
No idea how he has 120 psi, dont know if thats normal for that motor or not. that just what he told me.

Also check to see what size RETURN line he's using. This makes a difference as well. More than likely it is a CERAMIC ball-bearing which were an old style of setup used from years ago.

exactly, bb turbos do not need massive oil pressure. pick a up restrictor from ATP or someone.
