installing a cd player in a 97 civic..please help
hey guys...im bout to install a cd player in my 97 civic hatch tommarow and was just wondering if i can put the cd player in the top part the dash where the factory radio gose...it got a stock cassette player on the bottom but want to put a cd player in the top comparment...please shine some light on me and let me know if i gotta buy a kit or have to fab anything up.
Radio installation is about as easy as it gets. Buy a wire harness for you car from any automotive audio place quite often even an regular automotive store carries them. Take the wire harness for the radio and attach all the wires by color code to the wires from the stereo. I suggest soldering but you can just twist them together and use electrical tape, you lose a little quality no very noticeable unless you are picky like me. Then remove the old radio top or bottom as long as it is a standard D.I.N. space it will fit which yours is. Then plug in the harness and antenna connection and slide in the radio. Many radios come with an antitheft bracket. It is the metal sleeve that is seperate from the radio. I suggest using this piece. Put it in before the radio and bend out the tabs to hold it into the car then place in the cd player and push in the tabs for it. The instructions with stereos are usually very well written. Good luck
good info but they forgot to tell you one thing: if you have the Honda keyless
entry option...you have to do a lil more work. Honda uses the radio as part of the system..its the small green plug in the deck. Now if want to retain this feature
you will need to find a radio relocation harness-metra #70-1720t and mount the radio where your tape player is. Really simple.
Now if you don't know if your car came with keyless or not...remove the radio..and look for the green plug connected to it. open your doors (make sure dome light is on doors) and remove plug...did the light go out? If so you have to connect 2 wires in the green harness (light green with black trace and light green with red trace) to get it working with the door switches again.
have fun.

Yes. The main power/speaker connections are up top, and there's just a "slave cable" going down the the cassette deck. You can unplug the cassette and just leave it there.
