Default How do I insert new hatch liner piece?

Anybody know about installing this piece?

(It's the black rectangular strip that runs along the highest portion of
the hatch, near the rear squirter. It's surface is rubber, not paint, so it gets faded and torn on many crxs)

I ordered a new replacement part and was able to just pop off the old,
crappy one pretty easily. But am having difficulty putting the new one in.

I tried pushing it straight down, but it doesn't want to "pop" in.
I also tried lowering it down at 90 degree angle (vertical), so that top lip catches under the little ridges of the white plastic square pieces, and then rotating it
back down to 0 degrees, but no go.

Anyone do this before? Any tips?

Thanks

There is an endcap on each end. Gently pry off one of the endcaps, if you massage it a little you'll get a gap and then you can gently work it off with a screw driver. Once you get one endcap off the whole piece will slide off in the direction opposite the removed endcap.
