weight reduction
i have a 1989 crx dx that i am making into an autox car. i need to know what i can take out so that when the cage goes in it that it will still weigh nothing. i was thinking of cutting the front floors out and riveting in some thick plexi or diamond plate. also going to do the same to the trunk. any other ideas would be appreciated.
dont replace the rear side glass. doesnt weight anything.. its like 3lbs you save probably 2-3 lbs after putting on the lexan.
Do the rear hatch.. I made a full lexan hatch 3 yrs ago and it worked great.. lasted that long until we decided to make a new one. the car was daily driven as well.
check it out.. might have some pictures with the lexan visible. http://www.exospeed.com
its under the gallery page under Wil N.
other stuff you can take out is the bumper reinforcements. and of course.. fiberglass or carbon fiber hood.
THeres many things you can do.. I'm just not familiar with rules in autocross on what you cant take out.

Replace rear brake drums with 84-87 HF aluminum drums. Direct fit (sometimes requires to replace the backing plate also, sometimes fits just right).
They weigh twice as light as the steel ones and reduce the rotational mass of the wheels.
