Default bought my civic today possible problem

i bought my 92 civic dx with a d16. not a bad car pretty slow when going from an sr20det powerd s14 240 but not bad at all i like it. the problem is that after the car is on for abou 10 min it begins so smell and smoke from oil burning. its got or had a leak outa the oil cap but not now. thought maybe the valve cover was needing a new gasket but i dont know. my friend said hondas burn oil but i dono if its supposed to be like this or not. it runs fine and no over heating nothing on fire just smokes and smells of burning oil. what could this be?

do a compression and leak down test and check if you have some shot rings or need a valve job

Could be a number of things but if it's smoking it's not normal. And your friend isn't entirely correct. If you take care of the engine it won't burn oil. You problem could be valve seals or even a bad piston rings. Do a little searching and you might come up with some more answers. Otherwise bump for more help.

Edit: Beat me to it.

you say it had a "leak from the oil cap, but not now"... does it still smoke and smell? sounds like the guy just put some oil in the car and had some spill onto the motor and it was just burning itself off...post whether or not the problem persists
