Ugh.... So to make a story out of it, I traded my 98 gsr for a 00 SI with a B18C1 bottom end and pr3-3 b16 head... When I got the car it was leaking oil in cylinder 4 quite bad. I took the motor apart (about 2 weeks ago from 5/19/06) I replaced the main bearings, rod bearing, thrust washers, piston rings, rear main seal, head gasket, oil pan gasket, cam seal, valve cover gasket, plugs. The block was also hottanked and lightly honed with sunnen 400 grit.

I had the head remilled, also they found the valve guides on the exhaust side in cylinder 4 were toast, so they replaced the valve guides and seals throughout the head, and I just reused the valvetrain ..

So today, exactly 513 Miles later on the trip since the rebuild - smoke starts billowing from engine bay.... quite sad I pull over to see oil on top of my transmission and near the passenger axle on top of the tranny and under the distributor (it's not the distributor o-ring) the oil begins where the head and block meet on the tranny side. .. there was quit a bit sitting on the flat area on the left side of the motor under the ledge the head creates... I have been thinking rear main seal or headgasket.... Also I noticed my overflow resevoir filled itself to over max since yesterady when it was slightly above MIN.

Do you guys have any opinions ? I'm really frustrated and seriously sad. any help or comments I would appreciate.

Looks like the headgasket wasn't installed upside-down. What were the torque values for the headstuds??

 

is it possible for the headgasket to be upside down and still line up with all the waterjackets and oil holes ? when I put it on it looked completely right. I followed the service manual for a 2000 SI and followed to torque specs of 2 stage tightening, first to 22 then to 74 or something I believe I cant remember the exact numbers, I torqued them in the correct order and to the specs that were in the honda service manual...

 

Was it smoking out the tailpipe?

I would start with a leakdown test.

the pics indicate that your head gasket is installed correctly.
look at your block and head,you will see some numbers on the gasket to the left front, those indicate its installed correctly.

 

Also did you check the block and head to make sure that they were straight and not warped...
