Default angled exhaust. why? reason?

is there any logical reason why people put there exhaust on an angle or is it just something that people think actually looks cool. my opinion is that it looks retarded, was just wondering if there was a reason behind it other than people thinking it looks cool.

certain cars look great with angled exhaust, other look like ****. its all preference really. efs on the other hand only look good with oval/oem style exhaust.

Supposedly, the less bends the better the flow. I don't know if it's a good marketing idea or what. My Evo's exhaust only has 1 bend in it after the downpipe so it's angled. I think it looks good on certain cars though.

My exhaust (you can see the one bend)

I think a slight angle looks good on some cars.

But I personally think they look terrible on EFs because of how the OE muffler is mounted.

But yeah, the reason is to minimize the angles in the exhaust which improves flow.

i dont think the rsr gt2 looks bad at all on efs and those are slightly angled. reason i think they are angeled like that in the pic the OP posted is to eliminate a larger bend if the exhaust was straight. as you can see the piping foes from the axleback straight out.

tho there are aftermarket exhaust that dont eliminate the bend and i cant see that being very good for performance purposes

Most of these exhausts are based on the N1 series (hence the name).
The thought is, as stated, they reduce the amount of bends in-turn reducing piping length. In a level field, which allows minimal mods, having a slight edge may be the difference in a win and a loss.

I know in some of the weird series' over there, they have decibel-meters track side taking measurements. I believe if your car is above a certain db level you can be penalized. So the exhaust is turned or angled in the opposite direction to avoid putting out high numbers.

again.. whether or not this is why the N1 is designed this way is all just guess-work on my part. Some companies (apex, rsr) actually have minimal bends. Some of the 'other' companies simply angle the exhaust b/c it has become a trend and kids will by it..

when I cut the old exhaust off of my car, the piping before the muffler was bent 90degrees, and the thing was as far back as it would go, and still sticking out like 4 inches, so I had my exhaust angled just to be sure it would fit.

That said, when this exhaust gives out, I'll be putting a more eo looking exhaust on.

Mine is angled very slightly so it would fit under the car and not stick out past the bumper.

Yes, and saves money too because I hear the price of metal has markedly gone up the last couple years.

like everyone said less bends more flow, i think that angle is a lil extreme for my liking. but whatever floats your boat.

also the fact like stated above that most "n1 style" mufflers wont fit under a ef without an angle at all.

The first time I saw it, I didn't care for the look but I did like the fact that it angled up (Supra style). After a while I sort of got use to it and finally purchased one. Invidia is supposed to be a great product and the sound is sweet!!

Ha, Ha, funny thats my car in the first post, I made the CRX Invidia Exhaust fit my Hatch, its a pretty sweet exhaust system, I used it for 2 years, and have just recently taken it off and installed a Mugen Catback. Heres another pic for you all.

BTW-most of you on here are ignorant, the exhaust has to be angled because of the tight area, but the tubing is all mandrel bends and tig welded with CNC flanges, gave me a lot more hp with my B16a

The muffler is not that big, the exhaust is NOT custom, it comes like that from Invidia, I wanted Invidia because the one they had for my car looks like crap. But doesn't matter any more, gotta new exhaust with a muffler twice the size of my original.

yeah i know some catbacks come like that....and that muffler is huge,,theres no reason for these huge mufflers on little 4 bangers..you guys should be using motorcycle mufflers or whatever..
