Sounds like the seller uses the VIN to check color codes. You could tell him the color code from the chart on the inside of your driver's door, or you could figure out which part of the VIN is the color and just tell him that.

duponts good i use it all the time at work. vin numbers are no secret all someone has to do is come up to your car and look in the window. having someones vin number does no good except telling them what kind of car you drive.
You know after hearing all the stories where VIN numbers were being taken from one car and duplicated on another I shy away from these seller's. One guy wanted my VIN number for a knock sensor even after listing the item for a 94 Prelude H22 VTEC motor he e-mailed me and wanted my VIN. I said no and just reported it to ebay. He had positive feedback, only 30 responses but I didn't want to take a chance.
