Default Fuel Questions

Ive noticed on my dad's CB9, that when the gas is low, the engine is rather reluctant to start, and has to crank for waaay longer than it does normally.

Also, when I fill the tank up (completely full) I can smell gasoline fumes....yes, I have left the gas station...The smell hangs around at least until I'm done taking the car out for a quick spin, like 20 minutes or so, sometimes longer. This only happens when the tank has just been completely filled, other than that, there's no gasoline smell.

Any ideas? Cause my CB7 never smells like gasoline after I fill 'er up, and it usually starts pretty good even when I'm low on gas.

Thanks for any input!

Probably the fuel pump, or pressure regulator.

I can understand that for the hard-starting, but would either of those have anything to do with my mystery gasoline smell?

Maybe it's filling up too high, and the pressure is released. Don't fill it up too close to the top of the filler neck. Make sure the nozzle is all the way down into the filler tube when filling the tank, and stop at the first click-off. That or you have a leak at the top of the tank. You can check it from the top through the trunk, behind the back seat (access panel). Good luck solving the problem.
