Default Best way to cut TONS of metal??

Well i have this car that im parting out...

and as you can see the suspension and wheels are cracked up to **** im almost done taking everything off that i need from it, but im going to end up with just the bare shell.

now my budget is like 300-400 bucks. i was thinking a grinder, but that loud and will eat up blades, i was also thinking a hack saw with metal blades, but im not sure how fast that will cut through metal.

As you can see its a decent sized car with many bends cuz of the crash so i need something versitial and something that will cut at a decent rate.

Thanks for your guy's help

vin will be provided to a mod if need be

a good sawzall with some good bi-metal blades will do the job. depending on blade and sawzall it will cut like butter, it it will be like a butter knife cutting leather.

Instead of bi-metal blades, get demolition/rescue blades. The bi-metal blades tend to be thin, and will buckle. The demo/rescue blades are thicker, and cut quicker. Oh and you can get them in lengths from around 5inches up to 12. Use the shortest length you can to avoid kickback and possibly hurting yourself.

If you dont want to buy it, home depot offers the sawz all for rent.

personally, with 300-400 bucks i'd rent a plasma cutter, theres a bunch of places that rent them by the day .

plasma would be super fast cuts but you have to make sure you remove ALL gas from the car (from lines, tank etc)
plasma cutters and gas no no no mix, the car and the garage will be in little pieces if the plasma finds gasoline .

also you could buy a small oxy/acetalyne setup and cut metal like butta with that for under 400 bucks complete.
good luck bro

another vote for a sawzall

plasma wil be to messy and dangerous. Way to many flamable things in a car. (not just liquids)

Why waste your time cutting it up. As long as you have a title for it, any junkyard could take it.

BTW my vote is for the sawzall. I've used it before and with the right blade cuts real quick.

this is a valid point, after cutting up three cars in my driveway i think next time i will just pay the $$xx.xx to tow it.

Your best bet is to use a sawzall (corded rather than cordless) and some demo blades. Another tool that is useful (suprisingly!) is the air chisel that harbor freight sells for like 15$. Good luck...

well i did all around, and no one want to pick it up because its not going to be a rolling shell im selling the suspension wheels brakes etc..

so they will charge like 80-100 bucks to tow it and recycle it for me for free.

So i kinda figured if i was going to spend that much, might as well spend a few more hundred and have a new tool in my garage

Well now im kinda stuck between a plasma and teh sawzall, i know i am going to buy a sawzall for sure tomarow, but how messy is a plasma cutter??

and how much would those cost to outright buy??

yeah when i crashed my ef i went to a local rental yard and rented a saw-z-all for 34.00 for all day and got brand new metal blades free. and went to town. i had the motor seperated from the car in like and hour and a half. it was quick work and a good release of pent up anger.

for plasma cutters i just checked out ebay and saw 4 pages of em starting at $500-600 ( 500$ one said it cuts up to 5/8ths)
theres a plasma/tig combo unit around (didnt see it on ebay today) in that price range if ya search for it but forgot where i saw it.
or checkout your area on craigslist , their always poppin up on there.

plasma's will shoot sparks a good distance so you'll need to remove all flamable liquids etc from the car which ya gotta do if your cuttin it up anyway.
just be safe and careful and pay attention to what your doing and you'll be alright.

personally if theres no wheels/suspension i'd jack it up and roll it into the driveway so ya dont burn the garage down , grab a fire extinguisher and a buddy to watch for anything catching a-blaze and i'd go to town on the car with the plasma. it'd be alot faster than sawzall , and alot more fun (come on you get to play wit fire )

good luck and have fun bro

A plasma cutter would do the job, but why do that when theres people who will take it for scrap and might even pay you to do it...

where can i get one of those??

at a start wars convention?

but i bought this "super sawzall" because it was the biggest and fastest i could find

13 amps and 3000 SPM's

and i also got like 20 bucks worth of blades (demolition and metal ones), il let u know how it works out

and as for theplasma cutter, its a bit out of my price range the cheapest i found one was 300 bucks for a used one that a friend of mine was selling and he suggested for me to stick with the sawzall considering my garage size...

when I chopped up my integra shell it took about 4-5 hours with me and a friend using two sawzalls with bimetal blades...we chopped the whole car into 9 pieces. They were pretty big but still small enough to pick up. I went to recycle the metal and made a whole 8 bucks for the metal...that didn't even cover the cost of the blades that I bought....but selling all the other parts off the car did cover the labor and made up for not having a car that doesn't move taking up space in the garage...good luck

you talk too much.

you just call and say "i have a peice of junk car i need out of my garage" you dont need to give them your whole life story. they're not going to drive away if they show up and the car is stripped - unless the place you call is 'only' and "autowreckers".

That's what I did with my last civic. It was an autowreckers + metal recyling outfit though..

I'd rather spend an hour with a phone book than 5 hours with a sawzall..

they already came, ecology left laughing when they saw the car and A1 said they will take it, but i would have to pay for towing (which is 100 bucks)

so i just spent another 100 bucks (200 for the saw and blades) and im getting the job done hassle free and i have a new tool in my garage to play with
