Default 01 Civic starter issues, PLEASE HELP

I have a 2001 Civic as a daily driver, for the past three days when I go to start the car it won't start for me if I turn it straight over, and the "GREEN KEY" light on the dash flashes at me. However if I turn the key to the ON position and hold it there for a second, then turn it the rest of the way after pausing, it cranks up but still struggles a little. Can somebody tell me what this means?? The GREEN light in the manual states that there is a problem with the key coating, but I tried my Valet key and it still doesn't work right. Thanks guys.
