Default Dipstick keeps tricking me

Supz guys, New here and i'll start off with a quick question on my car.

I roll a 95 civic and since, about 6 months ago, have been working out the quirks in my B16. Most of them are fixed but something is bugging me.

Everytime i change the oil and run around for i couple of days, i check it again and my dipstick tells me I'm about a 1/4 quart low on oil. I know 1/4 of a quart isn't a big deal but i have ended up topping it off and checking it about a day later and then I'm 1/4 quart over. Its funny because it will read 1/4 low up until i top it off. . .likes its tricking me. . .why does it do that? i'v never seen that before and i work in a lube shop

I know its not a big deal but i'm sure i'll get asked about this sometime down the line and i would like to know how to answer it.

Plus its the little things that matter right? So. . .any ideas gents?

sounds like youre misreading it dude. check it after a day of driving after the car has had a chance to cool and the oil has settled.
