Default 97 Accord problems

All,
Second post here and from what I have read this first one is a crap shot (SRS light on).

Ride: 97 Accord wagon, Vtech engine, auto trans, power door locks, AC, Tilt, cruise, Sun Roof.....

It has 128K miles and seems to be in pretty decent shape. But here is a list of things to tackle.

SRS Air Bag Light is on, haven't tried to reset it yet. Any thoughts?

Door Locks - Left side Drivers, won't lock from switch or interior **** until door is closed. When I got it, it wouldn't lock at all. I unscrewed the **** by the window a few turns and now it wil lock, but only when the door is closed. I haven't taken this panel off yet to look.

Left side passanger door, won't lock/unlock from any switch, motor runs, no actuation. Fixed this, pulled the actuator/latch assembly out, pulled the cover off the actuator and found a spring used to apply resitence to an eccentric had lost its end plate so the spring was not applying any pressure. In short, without the spring pressure, the motor shaft spins freely. I cut a piece of stainless shim stock, wraped it around the spring and this eccentric thing and walla - problem solved!
Put it all back in. Its been working for about a month now of daily use. Sorry, no pics!

V-tech engine - very noisy: Are all these things this way? It seems to be isolated to the top end. Some is the heat shiled over the exhaust, but the top end is like a thrashing machine! I would like you opinion on this__________!

Trans - rough shifts, up / down, light throttle, heavy throttle. Fluid is clean and smell fresh - almost too fresh.... Are they all this way?

Thanks,

Randy

1. its vtec not vtech
2. srs, did you try fastening your seat belt?
3. door locks are easy fixes
4. "vtech" motors are generally noisier. try getting a valve adjustment. you may have some piston slap or valve lash.
5. not for sure about the tranny. mine 90 accord shifts kinda hard but nothing that is that noticable. and im not sure how tranny fluid can smell too fresh

hope that helps

your driver side door doesnt lock unless the door is closed, its a smart safety mechanism from honda so that you dont lock your keys inside the car

you have to lock it with the key from the outside, so if you dont have a key youll notice and be like oops i left them inside

aZnAcCoRd02,

1. its vtec not vtech :: Opp-s
2. srs, did you try fastening your seat belt?:: YES, I need to look at the code and do a reset and see how long it stays gone. not going to pay $75 usd for it though.

3. door locks are easy fixes :: True, but sounds like the drivers door is supposed to be that way. My first Honda....

4. "vtech" motors are generally noisier. try getting a valve adjustment. you may have some piston slap or valve lash. I will Look into ajusting the valves. Any Special tools required? I will do some research....

5. not for sure about the tranny. mine 90 accord shifts kinda hard but nothing that is that noticable. and im not sure how tranny fluid can smell too fresh:: OK, It ain't burned or otherwise cooked, color is bright red....

More than anything it is very busy shifing all the time adapting to the conditions - its just not a smooth as most of the vehicles i have been around and because it is so touchy with relation to speed, load, and throttle, it is busy all the time.

Hey, but thanks for the info...
