iight me and my friend have been argueing about this for weeks, he has an 05 V6 Mustang 5-speed, and i just got my 06 RSX Type-S 2 weeks ago, we wanna run but his license is suspened and I havent broken-in the motor yet, but yet he insists that his "american muscle" takes me and bla bla bla, but what is the real outcome? have any type-s owners raced an 05 V6 mustang?
**Cliff Notes**
05 V6 Mustang: 4.0 liter 12 valve SOHC V6 Motor, RWD, 210 hp @ 5300rpm, 240 lbs.-ft @ 3500rpm, Redlines @ 5600rpm, weighs 3,351 lbs. compression ratio is 9.7:1
06 RSX Type-S: 2.0 liter 16 valve DOHC I-4 Motor, FWD, 201-hp @ 7800rpm, 140 lbs.-ft @ 7000rpm, Redlines @ 8100rpm weighs 2,840 lbs., compression ratio is 11:1
are you sure the mustang is a 12 valve? im not much of an american car dude but 12 seems too little to me.
edit: typeS ftw ofcourse
edit: typeS ftw ofcourse
On paper the RSX will take it. But the only way to find out is to actually race. There are many different things that can happen during a race that decide the outcome. So looking at data from both cars can mean very little.

12 valves = right.
Most american cars have 2 valves per cylinder. The performance ones have 3.
Of course there are exceptions like the Northstar engine etc.

yeah I totally agree, thats why I asked if anyone has raced one...guess not

you should brake it off in that gaystang, my crx old motor SOHC D16A6 non vtec would beat a 97 V6 everytime and it only had header, cold air. you should walk all over him no problem.

just to make it clear that im talking about the new 05-06 body mustangs, not the gay slow ones prior that, Ive driven the 05 v6 mustang that were talking and its pretty quick, but ya I guess its up to the driver...
i put 2 1/2 almost 3 car lengths on a 05 5sp stang a couple of nights ago, they are sloooow. type s can hang really good with like an 01 GT, my buddy has one and he only put half a car on me from a 20 punch to about 90.
Def the type-s would destroy just because of the weight of the car. The new stangs have ahigh compressed engine thas why they red line so low... Def an RSX...RSX are no joke i saw one on the parkway against a type s CL the RSX pulled like a raped ape. i mean this car looked like it got so pist off that just flew the CL looked lost tried to gun it but it was a lost cause
Just look at the hp to weight ratio. You have him by a good 500 pounds and change. The only thing I would worry about is the amount of low end tourque he has. Like they all said, it's gonna be who can get it down the line better.
As for the guy asking about the valves, yes the V-6 has 12 valves, two per cylinder seeming small, but the GT with a V-8 has 24 valves with 3 per cylinder and variable valve timing.
Like everyone else said the power to weight ratio the rsx has it. It depends on the drivers alot too whoever is better will probably win in that race. The mustang will have more tourqe and get a better jump off the line than the rsx, but if you get a good jump you will kill him as long as you dont miss second.
*Should* the RSX be faster? Sure. Will you win?...depends on if you know how to drive or not. The RSXS is a slightly faster car, and with speed your advantage will increase (better aero, better gears) but that does not make you a hands down winner. BTW, anyone comparing a last generation V6 stang to the new car is talking out his ***, the new car is vastly quicker. And to those who think a stock RSX is a match for the '05+ GTs in a straight line, get real. I love RSXs as much as the next guy, and think it is a superior car in almost every way, but in a straight line an 05+ GT stick driven by someone who can wipe their own *** will smoke a stock RSXS like a dried out joint.
