Default ITB Pros and Cons

Anyone know whats so great about adding individual throttle bodies to your engine?

Ive seen em around in pictures but really never understood what the hell they really do.

FLAME AWAY I DONT CARE!

itb's allow a straight shot of air straight to the combustion chamber. more air + more fuel = more power also they eliminate any restrictive intake manifold designs. furthermore they increase throttle response greatly. However itb's work best with high compression setups and high lift cams so power increase is often not very significant on internally stock engines.

itb also need alot of tuning since you basicly have to get the air fuel mixture perfect. otherwise these wont work at optimum perfornace

Isn't this true for everything though?

As with anything, it is a matter of degree. Consider BC3+ cams vs a Skunk2 Pro1 cams. Both need to be tuned for optimum results, but the BC3+ is MUCH more 'drop-in friendly'. In other words, while tuning produces optimum results, chances are it will produce okay results if you just drop them in and run them without tuning. But the Skunk2 Pro1 cams are VERY sensitive to the tune. There is NO WAY you can just drop them in and have the motor run anywhere close to good.

It is proven that a common manifold with proper runner lengths and diameter with a properly sized plenum will make more power w/ just a 65mm TB than an ITB set up will. These factors just have to be matched to the cams.

ITB's stop intake reversion that is experienced with very radical cams that only make power in a certain width of the powerband w/ a common manifold.

ITB's will make a wild cam more street friendly by making the power band wider.
