Do the rotors need to be turned on the car? I know they don't come out as easily as Civic rotors. I also heard you will break the bearing seal or race if you try to take off the rotor.

I just want to do my own brakes. The local honda show has a machine that turns rotors on the car, and they said its $160 to turn.

 

It is a tough install. I just did mine on monday and it took me most of the day. heres the step by step direction. http://www.ozaccord.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41. Find someone with an impact gun if you don't have one. Removing the axel nuts is the hardest part. Mine took a solid 2 minutes of the impact to get it off.

 

If you don't have power tools i think you should take it into a shop. Not really worth the hassle imo.

 

Dude there were two discussoins that just went on about front rotors on the Accord
look it up on page 1 or 2 under. Legend brake conversion or V-6 brakes on a 4 cyl

 

I just did this on my 95 two weeks ago. The front spindle nut torques up to 184 ft/lbs so I would recommend using a long cheater bar (like a 3" diameter pipe - several feet long) and your largest socket wrench. Also, if you use a pickle fork to break the ball joints (there are three of them) then you will most likely need to replace the boots as they tear easily. It took me about 2.5 hours per side. Just make sure you have a torque wrench for reallembly as there are some that torque to 80 some in the 30's etc. You will want to get them all done correctly.

As far as turning the roters, I would think you could have them done cheaper than that at a local machine shop.

After wrestling with my rotors for a couple days I'd recommend taking the car to a shop. I did one side and took the car in to have the other side done.

The Honda engineers were sniffing glue when they designed the hub and rotor setup on this car.

What's going to happen is that the bearing housing WILL be rusted into the steering Knuckle, and it will take an act of GOD to get it out.

This looked promising, but by the time I found this I had had enough and I couldn't take it anymore. LOL

I do these brakes on Accords quite often. You don't need to turn the rotors unless the runout exceeds about .005 inches. Most customers usually say "screw it" & just go for the pad slap. Changing the rotors at home won't be an easy task so I'd say have someone else do it. Cutting your rotors on your hub said to be the best type of turning for your rotors, infact, resurfacing your rotors are actually better than new since the surface will be cut clean & not pressed.

PS, Accord timing belts are easy pacheezy. You shouldn't have a problem with it. Just remember to keep checking if everything is zeroed-out and replace your seals while everything is out. Cheers.
