Default lowered civics...

just wanted to know if i was alone or not. I got my hatch on tokico blues and skunk 2 coil overs and it isnt all the way low but is near that point. My question is do you guys have problems with bumps in the road. By problems i mean it sounds like your uca is hitting your upper wheel well. I was just wondering because i have been seeing lost of pics of hatches and they look alot lower then mine and i was wonderin how the hell they get around. Am i alone? Oh and i have bump stops on the struts, they are cut down to about an inch left, what could be the problem. I want to go lower but dont want to break my car hehehe

yeah that is what i hear, geting a set of illuminas soon, so is that the problem the car is so low that the uca are hitting, and preventions for this? Possibly stiffer springs, or struts?

thanks

so true..its more of a stock replacement shock..you get idiots all the time slamming there cars on blues and they expect eveything to be cool...those shocks cant handle the lowering or the spring rates..my advice to you is raise the damn car back up ,,dont go lower then around 2" or get some custom valved shocks for the pointless slammage....

doesnt anyone match the shock with the spring anymore??

im running tokico 5 ways illuminas and tokico lowering springs, and my car is at a performance stance (not slammed, but just right)

and adjusting the stiffness is one of the best factors ever, makes your suspension stiffer to aviod problems like these. its amazing how much you can tell the difference from the shocks being on 1 then being on 5 completely different feel of the cars ride. ive taken turns on 1 then taken turns on 5 (stiffest) and its amazing how much the car handles differently, you just gotta try them. they prolly arent the best best out there, but they do work great and you can definitly tell the difference

also haivng the ability to change how your car feels and handles by a turn of the **** is really a good thing, never gets old, change up the stiffness everyday if you want. just a overall good deal

Illuminas are great shocks, and yes the adjustability makes a nice difference. My car is riding on Illuminas and Ground Controls, I love the setup. It's very stiff though, a lot of my friends complain about it or ask my how I don't **** blood and lose fillings driving on the potholes around here. I have hit bumps and potholes and it felt like it was bottoming out, you just have to learn to avoid the bumps or drive a little slower with them. You can also get top hats from GC to extend shock travel.

If your car is already lowered, chances are you don't need to go lower. I wish I could get higher with the GCs, even with a litle preload the front is too low for my liking. You should measure the frame rails to 4.5 to 5" from the ground, that's just about ideal for performance. If you just want to slam the car all the way, then you kind of deserve to hit bumps and expletive your car up.

This man speaks the truth. And no, they don't match the shocks and springs, this is Honda-Tech, they're more concerned with how JDM their slammed Civic is.

i hear yeah thanks for letting me know what you think, yeah my car is about five inches off the ground, my question was just about how the hell people ride with such low profile and if i was alone with the slaming sound. oh and whats up with the top hat deal? I have heard things but not any explanation as to how it works.

thanks

It isn't the LCA hitting, it is the shock bottoming out. What you need to do is this:

http://faq.ef-honda.com/index....ng=en

the second part covers the fronts. I have not ever done the rear mod, or ever had any problems with my rear for that matter. The front mod, will make your car ride, a ton better, I highly reccomend it. The stock struts are just too long, for a lowered car.

Well in general the best advice someone can give you is to not drive like a maniac over shitty roads, if a large bump is coming up or shitty pavement, just slow down. End of story, but it does sound like your shocks are bottoming out, and you probably could use a stiffer spring at all 4 corners.

You need to realize that most pictures of "slammed" cars on Honda-Tech are staged - the car is set extremely low for photography purposes, and then raised back up to a reasonable height for street driving. People don't actually drive around that low.

Very true, i have them and dropped my car. I only got them because i was on a budget and needed them right away. What i did was make sure i didnt slam the **** out of it. just a good drop. i didnt mess with the bumpstops either. I'm saving for some illuminas so i dont care if they blow out.

I hope that doesnt make me too much of an idiot. being in college and having no money sux. oh well, i think i have done alright with the amount of money i have been able to scrape up.

Mr. Speaker<-- Always giving great advice and isnt an *** like most guys on here. Thanks bro, i have learned a lot from you.

pretty much.

stiffer springs will reduce the amount the suspension moves up, but obviously will make the ride stiffer. ive also seen ppl go through the trouble of cutting the top of the fender, the upper control arm basically goes into the engine bay.

raise the car. youve reached the physical limits of the car and eliminated the usefulness of your suspension.

extended top hats will give you more shock travel which you also need. youre riding on your bumpstops.

Ok first you say the UCAs are hitting then you say that he is ridding on bumpstops. The later answer is true. I did the shock mod I posted, my UCAs don't hit. It rides allot better also.

Do the shock mod, and you won't kill you shocks, you won't bottom out.
