Trans. bolt snapped off, stuck in block, how to remove?
so i just bought a DX motor off someone local. everything is great with it, except when they were removing the tranny, the top front bolt that holds it to the block snapped in half. it's still stuck in the hole, how the hell do i get this thing out??
thanks
thanks
i considered that but i'd like to get this thing up on my engine stand for a minute. i'd really like to get it out, but i have no idea how ... i doubt not having that bolt would be a problem, but if it's not that hard to get out i will.
Ok. You drill a hole into the broken bolt; just a small hole enough to get the tip of the screw extractor in it. Then find the correct size one of these: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr...e=Yes. After doing that, screw the screw extractor COUNTER-CLOCKWISE into that hole you just drilled and it should "grab" the broken stud and loosen it. Very simple and easy task.
ah i see, left handed threads. thanks man, i'll get one of those tommorow
just wondering if the bolt snapped like that, does that mean it's cross threaded or siezed in there?

they are called E-Z outs, or bolt extractors, search them on a tool site and you will see what they look like, go to sears or whatever and get one. i doubt if it snapped off inside the housing that it will come out w/ an easy out though.

if it is siezed in there, after you try the ez out, let it soak overnight in some penitrating lube like wd-40 or something. then b4 you try it again, heat it up with a torch. it will come out easy then.

well i got that extractor thing, didn't work. i drilled a nice hole in the bolt, hammered it in there real good and when i turned it, all it did was turn inside the bolt. oh well i guess i'll just run without that one bolt
nah i used the right drill bit and i used the biggest one for that bolt. it's really stuck in there good. i had to helicoil one of those bolts before, maybe i'll drill the entire bolt to shreds and retap.
