120 chain conversion..... is it really that great?
i understand the basic mechanics of switching from my wide, and heavy chain, to a lighter 520 chain, with the sprocket conversion. my question is, what is the downside to, or potential problems... or is there not any, to doing this. who doesnt want to get to their top speed faster, right? please, any advice, or exp. is greatly appreciated thanks.

I dunno about you....but i have 525 chain/sprocket combo...the preferred combo is 520...maybe RC's are weird though....

i'm pretty sure you mean 520 conversion, as 120 would be like a bicycle chain.
My friend did a 520 conversion with -1 in the front on his RR, while at the same time also getting a power commander and a custom map. After doing all of that, he barely noticed a difference.
520 chains aren't o'ring chains so you have to really make sure you're lubing them all the time, whereas the stock o'ring chains self lubricate a little.
I would say, don't do a 520 conversion unless you're changing your gearing too.
For the RC, -1/+1 is the best combo i've heard of.

520 chains arn't o-ringed? Wouldn't that depend on the make and model of chain? I know DID and EK both have o-ring 520's.

Only if you dont buy an o-ring chain they arent. I bought an o-ring RK chain for ~$80.
I noticed more chain noise when I went to a 520 chain and -1/+2 sprockets.

Oh, my mistake. My friend's chain must have not been an o-ring one then.

No there isn't a downside to doing a 520 conversion...
There would be horrible consequences to doing a 120 conversion though.

Its a smaller/lighter chain then the stock 530. It might break quicker or be ever so slighty weaker.

Yeah... C.C.
When I think of vintage racing I think of some bad mother ****** hauling *** around a closed course Wooden plank velodrome at more than 120 mph with bias ply tires and a leather helmet... thats pretty far from C.C.
It's more akin to Harold Lloyd
